And, yes, he sort of gave the finger to all the racist haters and the GOP.

(50,453 posts)I loved how he said it, clear, unequivocal and committed. He laid it down and put it to the republicans. Watching Rachel earlier and seeing the repub pundits seething, knowing they know they are impotent, the President has both the law and precedence behind him, was quite a tell, imo.

"No human being is illegal", so true, so powerful.
I am very, very happy for the families who have lived in fear for years but no longer, they will not be torn away from their children, they can stay a family.
I'll bet this beautiful and intelligent woman is smiling tonight!
Thanks, Eva, for all of your contributions in 2012 which made this possible!

(81,466 posts)I feel so bad for President Obama. The astounding piles of shit he's had to wade through to get anything done for ANYBODY in America who isn't already well-heeled and well-situated and in need of NO help whatsoever because they're already doing just fine for themselves. The shit they've thrown at him. The abuse he's had to take. The fuckers and idiots and bastards and utter traitors he's had to tolerate and try to work through, in spite of. Man, if anybody's going straight up to Heaven when they die, I think it'll be him. The suffering and persecution he's endured by some of the lowest low-life assholes and cretins and human shit-bags on the planet - he's already done enough Purgatory time here on earth to provide free passes Upstairs to 100-dozen sinners. Or, let's get biblical - "70 times seven."
So glad he's getting this validation and gratitude and all this goodness flowing back to him from the Latino and compassionate-human-being community! Shit - during this past election season, everyone who dumped on him from the bad guys to all those backstabbers in his own camp who turned on him - you couldn't count that high! It just infuriated me and made me feel deeply ashamed. SHAME ON THEM ALL!!!!! HE'S gonna go to Heaven when he dies. The First Lady, too, because you know she's suffered right along with him and yet she too has shown such grace and class. As for the rest of 'em, I dunno... I find that I'm feeling almost glad that the Dems - who turned their backs on him or denounced him or played up how they disagreed with him or didn't support him - lost.
Interesting thought I just had, too, Cha. I'm wondering if this nonstop persecution machine - as a matter of fact maybe we oughta start calling it "The Professional Persecution Machine" - might not have an unanticipated backspin. What if it starts turning President Obama into a sympathetic character, as it begins to occur to more Americans that this is a good man being, well, PERSECUTED. I mean, Enough Already!! Get off his back and stop trying to muck up the works! Stop picking on the guy - he's trying to help people and help them make their lives better!!! Perhaps it soon becomes clear (and sinks in) that the GOP is just a big bunch of babies. Spoiled sports. Malcontents. Snot-nosed brats. Adult-size FIVE-year-olds. Tantrum throwing adult-size five-year-olds at that. My Millennial-age son quipped at random the other day, with eyeballs rolling - "so what are they gonna do, impeach the guy? It's like that's all they do. Impeach Democratic presidents."
BINGO! Man, if THAT starts getting around, the CONS are sunk. They're fucked. The wrong demographic may be recognizing what selfish, racist, sore-loserman, tiresome, petulant piss-ants they are. They'll be on the other side of the White House fence for a generation or more. Not that we can take that for granted, though!!!
Cha
(297,655 posts)only gives them what most of them want, imo.. but, maybe just maybe.. more than a few will wake up and see the light through their hazy blinders.
"so what are they gonna do, impeach the guy? It's like that's all they do. Impeach Democratic presidents."

(6,699 posts)..but maybe the compassionate repuKKKes will work it in. It is such a shame that they have to suffer needlessly. I'm sure the repuKKKes will try to convince the Dreamers that "it's ALL President Obama's fault". They are so good with twisting the message.

(37,364 posts)And compassion is needed on so many fronts now. The other thing that is desparately needed is a Congress that represents the people and does its job. The amount of heavy lifting this one man has done throughout the past six years has been phenomenal. Think how much quicker this could have been done and how much more could have been accomplished with a legislature less concerned with endless campaigns and willing to work. Well done, Mr. President.
Cha
(297,655 posts)If only he had more help.. I was hoping for it so much with the Midterms.. but, alas it was not to be. We could have an amazing Country right now if more people had bothered to vote(2010&2014) and vote for the people who would actually do a service for our country.. and our Planet.

(297,655 posts)the basic networks wouldn't hear of it.
Here's Bernie on that..
U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) issued the following statement today on President Barack Obamas proposal to protect millions of immigrants in the United States. He also commented on the refusal of major television networks to broadcast the presidents prime-time speech:
Im a strong supporter of immigration reform and of the need to provide a pathway to citizenship for 11 million undocumented immigrants. I support President Obamas action to help working families stay together. I think everyone agrees that the current immigration system is broken. The Senate passed an immigration reform bill more than a year ago but House Republicans refused to even consider it. They have left the president with little choice but to act on his own.
It is incomprehensible that the major television networks have said they will not broadcast the presidents speech tonight. People can be for immigration reform or against it, but clearly we need an intelligent, informed debate. Unless the networks change their plans, they will be doing a disservice to the American people and failing in their obligation to serve the public good.
