Family Fights Ordinance to Keep Beloved Pit Bull

Zeus doesn't bite. He's never exhibited aggressive behavior, either–according to his family.

But a city ordinance in Moreauville, Louisiana is telling them they have to "dispose" of Zeus– or they'll do it for them.

Zeus is a pit bull, and the Owens' story reignites the debate over the dangerousness of bully breeds.

Shows the ignorance & injustice of breed specific legislation at work.

the country there are pit bulls that are gentle and loving but because of the dog fights they are doomed to take the blame.

Wasn't it LA where those dog fights were held?

Zeus has been trained for a specific purpose of helping a person with a handicap. That's far different than having him trained to be an attack or guard dog. I think the city should grant the family amnesty, in this situation. In my title, I stated that I'm for the banning of pit bulls. I say that, because the owners of these dogs are unreliable, lazy, uncaring, you name it. The majority of them fail to grasp the harm, these dogs can seriously inflict, not just on another dog, but on people (even the owner or family) as well. There was a report about ten years ago, that stated, the owners of pit bulls, have a lower IQ, than most people. That could explain their failure to understand just how dangerous these dogs are.

Classism is just a hair less obscene than racism, ya know?

5. Your argument isn't with me, it's with the people who did the study.

As for the

stupid, unreliable, lazy & uncaring
I was thinking of the owners, whose dogs have attacked other dogs and/or people. Those owners, seem totally belligerent. If you watch shows like The People's Court, etc., the owners just don't get it. It's astonishing! They want to blame everybody else for the attack. You could explain it to them 100 times, and they still wouldn't get it. Every so often, a dog has to be put down, because it attacked a stranger, or family member. It's not the dog's fault, but the dog pays the ultimate price.

7. Let me guess: The "study" was done by Colleen Lynn or Merritt Clifton.

Or by someone with similar credentials: i.e. absolutely none.

6. Pit bull bans don't work.

I recently returned from England where pit bulls are totally banned, and yet a pit bull (only 20 miles from where I was at) managed to kill a sweet little 6 month old baby girl.

They did a DNA test to prove it's breed.

"The dog that killed a six-month-old girl in Northamptonshire was an illegal American pit bull, say police.

The baby, who has not been named, was attacked at a property in Morning Star Road, Daventry, last Friday and was pronounced dead at hospital.

Her grandmother, who was caring for her, was injured trying to protect her".

When a pit bull kills or attacks someone, they should charge the owner with whatever their dog did - murder or attempted murder. If their dogs attacks and maims/kills another animal, the pit bull owner should be financially wiped out. That might make people think twice about owning these dogs.
