We empower them to make the decision to use those guns, should we change that?

(845 posts)It's far too late for that In this country.
You can't very well have a populace armed to the teeth and law enforcement with sticks.

(10,272 posts)Are nearly batman WITHOUT the firearms. Require them to be fire-armed, but keep that shit in the car. Anything that requires local law enforcement to use MORE than riot shotguns with pepperspray rounds requires a SWAT Team ANYWAY.

(845 posts)Pepper spray doesn't work on everyone.
They are supposed to respond to a possible crime unarmed and run to a car if they need a gun? That doesn't make a lot of sense.
We live In a country where the Supreme Court has determined that people have a right to carry guns. You can't very well take that same right away from the person you expect to show up to enforce law.
Hell, we have open carry idiots all over the place.

(24 posts)Would you honestly go on patrol without a gun-knowing how many illegal guns are out there. Would you walk a foot post in East New York or the Bronx?

(28,749 posts)In my opinion there should be no guns, but at this point it seems to be a moot point here in America.

(14,733 posts)So how do we do it? Referendums at the state level to place restrictions on police armaments and use of force?
Agschmid
(28,749 posts)That's the first change.

(14,733 posts)When does voting actually start to work?
People are giving up on voting because it doesn't actually deliver.

(28,749 posts)We all need to understand how our civic responsibility can help shape events like this.

(14,733 posts)We need changes coming as a result of referenda from the citizens, for the citizens.
Our elected 'representatives' do not represent us.

(24,135 posts)holy fucking shit. That's not counting the ones they don't consider felons - all the accidentals are left out, forgotten.
