(6,119 posts)once again there is injustice
anytime there is a college sporting championship there is sometimes rioting with cars turned over.
never have seen teargassing with those .. but one car gets vandalized and they lob one tear gas after another.

Yeah, she didn't quite understand that, either =)

(10,272 posts)Problem was, we still had another wall mount in the house, and only one line, so you could be in the middle of your aforementioned "conversation" and anybody else could pick up.
We got really good at hearing that double click when the other line got picked up lol.

(60,010 posts)And I trust Tim Pool, Jeremy scahill, the local organizers who are live blogging in several cities where protests are taking place, esp. Ferguson.
Much more trust than anything on MSM.

They'll lie to your face and crack your skull open. That's today's police.

(4,959 posts)with dozens of tear gas canisters and threats of arrest to the peaceful protestors..
ChisolmTrailDem
(9,463 posts)it was that bunch who smashed windows. There didn't seem to be any looting at that point. Meanwhile, the thrust of the crowd was back at the justice center shouting at the riot cops. Then a military assault group came up the street demanding they disperse. The protesters then turned their attention toward the cop car that either drove up amongst them, nearly running some people over and a short time later the tear gas started flying. At the cop car, some white guys in masks began attempting to overturn the police car but easily escaped when cops on foot showed up with bean bag guns. Their demeanor while doing that, relevant to the guys trying to overturn the car, seemed odd as they did not aggressively pursue the guys who were attacking the car.
Are you watching any of this?

(8,646 posts)One of the reporters (Keith Boag, I think) said that he was just standing there and so was everyone else - standing there peacefully - and the police moved in and started firing tear gas everywhere.
Cops are definitely the aggressors here.

Firing rubber bullets and firing tear gas can sound like gunshots...jus' saying.
Cal Carpenter
(4,959 posts)going off, at least according to the livestream dude's assessment.
Haven't heard anything from the ground about actual gunshots.
And you're right about the sound of rubber bullets and tear gas cans getting shot.

(22,271 posts)Protesters were chanting. That's it! Then the chanting is met with tear gas and military vehicles. The National Guard needs to be protecting the protesters from the police.

(1,832 posts)looted the liquor store, the meat market and the hair salon and also set those establishments on fire? Interesting. I have no idea what you are watching, but I am watching a livestream and MSNBC and I have seen a lot of protesters behaving VERY badly and cops showing crazy restraint. But then again, I also believed forensic evidence would trump eyewitnesses.

(4,959 posts)because of the action of a few troublemakers is 'crazy restraint'?
So you're a fan of collective punishment. Well, the good news for you is that you'll get to see a lot more of it, it seems, because things are escalating.
Funny how all the hundreds of peaceful protestors are painted as violent because of a small minority of those among them. I'm guessing you don't like it when people apply the actions of a 'few bad apples' in the police force (you know, like the one who shot the unarmed kid a dozen times and didn't get indicted) to all of law enforcement.
AnalystInParadise
(1,832 posts)and you don't have some of these issues. The much larger crowd could peacefully subdue the trouble makers and deliver them to the police. You know.....police their own.....
Cal Carpenter
(4,959 posts)earlier from a handful of people who the crowd was calling infiltrators and provocateurs.
That was before the tear gas and threats of arrest.
What do you even mean by 'police your own' anyway? This is a large community of mostly power less people. What are they supposed to do to 'police' thousands of people and make sure no one does something stupid?
In every single social movement of any significance, there are infiltrators. They've infiltrated labor movements, civil rights movements, anti-war movements, for decades and decades. How are the protestors supposed to 'police' those guys?
Anyway, I don't feel like arguing against an authoritarian right now, I'm going back to the live feeds.
AnalystInParadise
(1,832 posts)that is a bottom up citizen level solution.
Yikes.......now it is authoritarian to ask people to identify and isolate troublemakers. Good luck with that.

(18,186 posts)most everyone has been peaceful, trying to stop looters and protect businesses.
Cops are right now kettling crowd, lobbing teargas into an area of parked cars - that can't go anywhere as they re blocked in by cops?
The cops are definitely trying to provoke an already unsettled crowd, but the crowd is remaining calm.

(1,712 posts)were they the ones who set three buildings on fire? Responsible for the random gunshots?
ChisolmTrailDem
(9,463 posts)it was not set upon by a crowd or mob by any means. His paraphrased words were: It doesn't take many people to start a fire and this building was certainly not set up by a mob but only a couple of people that I saw over going over there.
delete_bush
(1,712 posts)the building he was watching burn and that it was not set upon by a crowd or mob by any means" means what, exactly? Because honestly this seems to be a very convoluted statement. Perhaps you can translate for me.
And there were still two more buildings that Chris was unable to watch, or did he comment on those as well?

I have my own breaking events command center in my office. Looks like the bridge of the USS Enterprise with a red alert light in the ceiling and lights blinking and monitors glowing.
I did have a claxon, but the neighbors complained. Now they're bitching about the brownouts my command center is periodically causing in my apartment building.
