I Am Pretty Sure of This...

My teenaged son is no "perfect little angel." Of this, I'm sure. I adore him, of course, and he has an engaging personality (I'm biased) and tends to draw people to him... but, I get the occasional phone call from a teacher, and he has the same quickfire temper that his father had as a teen. I am also sure he does a bit of the stuff that many teenagers do when out with their friends...the things that make parents worry and sometimes cringe.

That tiny background given, of this I am pretty sure:

I am pretty sure he can jaywalk with a friend and not be stopped for it
I am pretty sure he could even make a possibly stupid decision (because that is what teenagers do) and not be shot 12 times for it.
I am pretty sure that, if he was shot 12 times for it, a police officer probably would not be celebrating his wedding and getting off scot free... while the country sighed in sympathy around him.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure.

And that's a damned shame, frankly. Every parent should be able to say the same.

There are people who should never never be allowed the privilege of being a Police Officer. The Phyic evaluation exams need to be updated to prevent the possibility of the Darin Wilson persons from ever wearing a badge or being associated with any authoritative position period. Ask this question.was he a bullied kid in High School and now he has a badge and gun,he now is the bully? Reason I ask is I know a evaluator for a major PD and this came from her. Her PD never had a complaint of any of her personnel being out of line. Her famous statement was, hire great people with great skill sets and continue to build their skill sets.

... in my little corner of Houston, because he's white and plays football, I doubt he would get even community service. More likely, the cop would have driven him home and had a "boys will be boys" discussion with me on the front porch.

A few years ago, the starting QB got busted for possession... nothing happened.
