Hardware store fires county GOP chair over anti-Muslim comments

A rural Minnesota Republican Party official has been fired by his employers after he condemned Muslims on his Facebook page.

~snip~

"We will not tolerate this type of bigotry within our business family," wrote Bob and Sue Kulbeik, who run the Hardware Hank store in Ortonville, Minn.

Big Stone County GOP Chair Jack Whitley called Muslims "parasites" and wrote "FRAG 'EM!" when they travel to Mecca, slang for a fragmentation hand grenade.

"It is with regret and shock that we feel we must address the comments that one of our employees made last week. While we support every American's right to free speech, we certainly cannot condone the inflammatory remarks against Muslims and others. This is NOT a view we share and we are saddened to know that this has become such a horrible reflection on Big Stone County, our community, and our business."

The guy who was fired is the chairman of the Big Stone County Republican Party (surprise!). That's the real story IMO.

The Minnesota chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations last week called on Republican leaders to repudiate Whitley's comments.

Minnesota GOP Chairman Keith Downey said Whitley's comments "could not be further from the Republican Party's beliefs."

Whitley told the Associated Press the comments were on his personal Facebook page and have "nothing to do with the GOP."

Whitley's comments were first reported by the Bluestem Prairie blog. ........
