Police Beat, Taser, and Shoot Man 23 Times, Killing Him for Walking Down the Street

“Drop his f***** ass, drop his ass!!” one officer can be heard saying on the dashcam right before six cops put 23 bullets into a man who was lying on the ground.

Martinsburg, Virginia – This week, the family of a Virginia man who was killed by police is filing for an appeal in their lawsuit against the city, which was railroaded out of court last year after the incident occurred.

In the aftermath of this case, it was discovered that police not only shot an innocent man 23 times while he was surrounded by a half dozen officers, but also that those officers attempted to plant evidence, tamper with the crime scene, make false statements and stage a massive cover up for a murder.

On March 13, 2013, Wayne A. Jones was walking down the street, directly next to the sidewalk, on the side of the road. He was approached by a police officer who began to interrogate him about how he was walking.

Jones responded by telling the officer that he was trying to “reach a distance.” Before he was able to explain what that meant, the officer began getting aggressive with him, and began to ask if he was carrying any weapons or drugs. Knowing that he had a pair of scissors in his pocket, Jones asked the officer, “what is a weapon?”

was behind us in this country. It is sad and yes I agree this country is on a fast track to hell
And with many conservative Judges and a Majority of rightwing nuts on the Supreme Court I think many police officers believe because of the courts structure they can get away with these kind of actions.
And with a with a Republican Majority in both houses in beginning in Jan I think we are in for a major set back in this country when actions like this were tolerated.Im refering back to the1930's when the law was what the people decided ..Its a shame

I vaguely knew, but with social media, I am getting a clearer picture.
Black millionaires, 3 generations of desegregation, a black president, and still the lives of people of color are at risk of being killed by police.
Families didn't just have to start teaching their kids how to put police at ease in their dealings with them in the last few years. This has been happening since it began- when white people decided black were inferior. Centuries!!!!!
If I ever had a patriotic urge, it's gone.
In not being properly aware, I am wrong. So many of my friends and family are so so very wrong. Those who deny that they have been granted a privilege of safety in this country are wrong and I reserve most of my spite for them.
Those of us who are white are the only ones who can fix this. How many have the will? How many have friends or friends who have children who could be the next victim? How many just give a damn that it is wrong?

The bottom line is exactly how many white people can be easily convinced that black men look like demons and that alone is a legitimate reason to kill them?

We are standing before the world in this shame and there are people who believe that this country is something to be proud of. And, it has been for all of the centuries is has been this way.

Most never make the news. the majority of time the police can cover up any of their wrongdoings. or in some cases the police dont even have to bother with covering up because they know no one will pursue any action against them.

Again, the stat is that 2 unarmed black men are killed by police officers every week on average. Those are the unarmed ones. So that does not include folks with any object in their hand, i.e. a toy gun, thin wooden stick, butter knife (all things people have been killed for).

Also, incidents where the person is permanently scarred or is left with life altering injuries or succumbs to their injuries weeks or months later, usually don't even figure into these stats. I can think of two, separate and recent cases in Vegas that fit in this latter category. (where the cops admitted they wrongly shot the victim and still didn't make national news and the cops are still on the force).

If he just wasn't acting like a criminal and carrying weapons, none of it would have happened (even though, um, how would they know he had scissors in his pocket before they stopped him?). And, was he wearing a hoodie? Sagging his pants? And it sounds like he was jaywalking too - in the words of Wilson, "what's wrong with the sidewalk?" (civilized white people NEVER walk on the roads, only on the sidewalks - even when there isn't a sidewalk, white people STILL walk on the sidewalk!). Jesus, just fall into line, follow orders, don't break laws, don't be a criminal, and you'll be FINE.

We need a law that automatically appoints a Special Prosecutor from outside the jurisdiction in any cop shooting. The local DA's work too closely with local Law Enforcement to objectively take a case to a GJ or Judge for an indictment and prosecution.

I think that the good ol' white boy's club in blue would still stick thick as thieves. They need to have a jury of public folks, without ANY professionals, to decide if it goes to trial - although I'm sure that wouldn't work either. I don't know what the answer is, but there are seriously days that I cannot go out into this shitty world.

I say sentence them to be tied to chairs in a locked room with only the family members of the deceased and let the latter determine how slowly they die. I know that would probably be considered cruel and unusual punishment but I'm beyond losing control of my emotions when it comes to this murdering scum in police departments across the country. Certainly more than a few bad apples are proving to be a danger to the public and need to be removed from civilized society.

Just now there are more cameras. These acts go unpunished, so no one cares. Five minutes on the news and it's over, the victims' fault. Move along, nothing to see.

With each reported case, I think, now this one is different. They won't be able to wiggle out of it. The twelve year old in Cleveland. Now how will they explain this? Oh, they lie and the kid's father has a record so the kid probably deserved it. The victim's fault. Move along, nothing to see.
