This is my first try at this, so please forgive me if I've missed anything.
There is a concerted effort to grant those of religious background special privileges; to be able to take away the rights of those who dont share their particular sexuality. The bill HR-5958, or the so called Religious Freedom Restoration Act, attempts to establish that those of religious background have the right to impede or limit the rights of others.
Effectively, this bill says, if youre religious, you are more important than those who either arent, or who do not follow in your beliefs. This bullying style of coercive legislation should not be tolerated.
However, the House, Senate and Governorship of Michigan are fully under republican control. This means any attempt to appeal to their better nature, on the part of the people, will likely be met with laughter and incredulity.
Instead, I propose contacting the major businesses headquartered in Michigan, and advising them that, as long as they remain silent on this travesty, we will no longer be using their services or buying their products. Perhaps, in this way, we can get through to the Republican controlled Michigan congress.
Below is a non-comprehensive list of businesses headquartered in Michigan. Many of these businesses are national brands, and so, have much to lose. I would encourage you to look through the attached link (at the bottom of the list) for other familiar businesses to contact, and please share this message far and wide.
For your convenience, here is a handy message you can copy and paste into message fields or emails:
The bill HR-5958 or the so called Religious Freedom Restoration Act attempts to establish that those who merely claim a religious background have the right to impede or limit the rights of others.
This assault on the rights of those who do not share a personally held belief, is unacceptable and inexcusable.
I look forward to your companys swift action in this regard
Sincerely,

(40,416 posts)It's simple. Where do you go to church?
When you respond, I don't go to church, they inevitably gasp.
One can always tell the good business owners in Grand Rapids. They're the ones open on Sunday.
But beware of the AmWay lunatics. They're everywhere. Half the city is named either AmWay or DeVoss. There's no getting away from any of it, except to go where Calvanists fear to tread, like a bar, on Sunday (if you can find one).
I recommend Founders Brewing. It is crowded and noisy but spacious. The food is pretty damned good, the brews, an eclectic mix. You might want to take along a designated driver. And yes, they are open on Sunday. I've worshipped there a few times, so to speak.
