SANFORD, N.C. A man died Wednesday afternoon after he was shot by a Sanford police officer inside a home in the 600 block of Magnolia Street.
Family members identified the victim as Travis Faison, 24.
For hours after the mid-afternoon shooting, relatives stood outside police crime scene tape awaiting any information from authorities.
"They are trying to keep it down, because the police did it," said Tyrone Bell, a cousin.

My friend told me this happened around 3:30 pm yesterday and they didn't remove the man's body until way after dark. I guess they were still investigating. The victim's mother lives in Virginia and she got to her son's house in an hour and a half! She had to have been driving around 90 mph to get here that quick.

(2,256 posts)SANFORD, NC (WTVD) -- The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation has released a statement on a fatal police shooting in Sanford Wednesday.
It said a Sanford police officer was attempting to serve warrants on Travis Faison, 26, in a December 5 shooting. He was to be charged with attempted murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.
The SBI said its preliminary investigation shows members of the Sanford Police Department located Faison outside a home in the 600 block of Magnolia Street in Sanford.
Faison went inside the residence and Officer Brently William Brown, 23, followe. The shooting occurred inside the residence.
The SBI said Faison had a gun which was recovered by its agents.
EMS was called to the home after the shooting, but Faison died on the scene.
Officer Brown is on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, which is standard procedure in any officer-involved shooting.

The warrants were in connection with a Dec. 5 shooting in Sanford.
The SBI said its preliminary investigation shows members of the Sanford Police Department located Faison outside of 621 Magnolia Street in Sanford. Faison headed inside the residence and Officer Brently William Brown, 23, followed Faison inside the home.
The shooting occurred inside the residence. Faison had a firearm, which was recovered by the SBI.
