(25,699 posts)It feels... weird agreeing with you about something, Logical.
Let's agree to keep it just this one thing. People might get ideas.

(8,554 posts)Never did think much of the term "patriots"...it's always brought to mind Indian killers, Slave traders, and Land grabbers, to me.
Excellent toon!

(2,323 posts)"we tortured some folks."
No. We tortured some people. In this particular instance using "folks" lessons the victims"s humanity. They were "folks" not people so it wasn't too bad to torture them.
countryjake
(8,554 posts)When I think of "folks", it brings up friends in my neighborhood, acquaintances I run into at the grocery, relatives at a family gathering, buddies at a ballgame or picnic...nothing at all like the actual inhumane conditions that those people suffered in the secret prisons, "salt pits", and hell-holes where our government held them, tortured them, and killed them.
Forevermore, when I hear that word, "folks", it will conjure up the image of wet, naked, bleeding, terrified people, shackled and bolted to a cold concrete prison floor. A prison controlled by my own government.
"...but we tortured some folks." No, we tortured captive prisoners, detained and held by the good ole U.S. of A.

(2,497 posts)I like Obama, but in this case, he is a fucking coward. I am so, so disappointed. I'm trying to focus my outrage on the fuckity fucks who actually did the torture, but this is so . . . pathetic.

(20,317 posts)be elected in this country, and that Obama (and those like him) are as good as we can get.
He won by pretending to be a liberal. He made every effort to give the impression that he was much more left leaning than he actually was when campaigning. He beat Hillary Clinton largely because he was relatively unknown, and his act couldn't be checked against his record, as Clinton's could. If he'd run as that '80's moderate Republican' he later admitted to being, he would've lost.
