My sense of history on the Cuba issue is admittedly sorely lacking.

But why have we kept an embargo and non-normalized relations with Cuba while practically falling all over ourselves doing business with China in every possible way?

I mean communism? Both. Human Rights violations? Both. So what am I missing.

Or is the answer pretty much just straight forward hypocricy?

The Electoral College. Florida, and especially Miami, has a very large Cuban exile community that is extremely anti-Castro, and that punishes any politician who even dares to suggest that we should normalize relations with Cuba. But that is changing as a younger generation of Cuban-Americans is more open to the idea. Our policy on Cuba is a Cold War relic that has not served any good purpose for many years. It is long overdue to change it.

...especially the dwindling population of those that came over after the Revolution. However, younger Cuban- Americans have different concerns.

Ask yourselves these questions:

1) We've had the embargo in place for fifty years now? Has it done anything to hasten the end of the Castro regime?
2) Saudi Arabia is a monarchy; it treats women as second class citizens; it has a horrid human rights record; Saudi nationals have been linked to funding ISIS and 9-11; it is intolerant of all religions other than Islam; and it would not let our troops openly practice Christianity, even when they were there to defend their nation. Are you saying we should discontinue diplomatic relations and support for Saudi Arabia?
3) Are the Castro brothers getting any younger?
4) How is MFN trading status for China not an undeserved bailout?
5) Do we have the right to lecture any nation on human rights? #Gitmo #ICan'tBreathe #Ferguson #OscarGrant #TortureReport

Get back to me and let me know.

Why the Cuba Issue No Longer Cuts Against Democrats in Florida

Just a snip//

"All of that changed over the past 10 years. The 2013 Pew survey showed that the Republican advantage among Cuban-Americans had dwindled to 3 percentage points, 47 to 44. The Florida exit poll in 2012 showed that Mr. Obama won the Cuban-American vote, 49 to 47 percent. Last month, the exit polling showed that Cuban-American voters supported the Democrat Charlie Crist, 50 to 46 percent, though he lost the governor’s race."

Every now and then it shows a flash of common sense, but, more often than not, they earn their news business nickname for being a hub for CIA - Spook Central.

Watch what they do. Also the USAID role in Cuba which is front an center today raises some embarrassing questions about those glorious Arab Spring uprisings including Egypt's.
