I lived in South Texas when his father was found dead, gang execution. I had no idea of his relationship. I found this article from 1992 online in Texas Monthly. A very interesting history.

Sissy is (was) his STEP-grandmother.

I'm guessing her influence didn't rub off much on him, given he's an obnoxious Republican.
