Allen West Ousted From NAACP Event

WASHINGTON -- It turns out calling Democratic lawmakers "Communists" has some consequences.

Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.) was supposed to be the keynote speaker at a fundraiser for his district chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) this past Saturday. But days before the event, the group canceled the gathering and asked West not to come back when they rescheduled. Why?

"There's a certain statement he made about Communists," Jerry Gore, president of the Martin County NAACP, told Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers. "That statement alone ... we do not represent that type of atmosphere."

The NAACP chapter is rescheduling its banquet for Sept. 15, with a new keynote speaker. Gore told Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers that a spokesman for West said he "understood" why the organization didn't want West to speak anymore.

West landed in hot water earlier this month after telling constituents at a town hall meeting that some 80 House Democrats "are members of the Communist Party. It's called the Congressional Progressive Caucus." His remarks sparked outrage among Democrats -- Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) said "not even Joe McCarthy would have said anything so stupid" -- but West later said he had no regrets about the ordeal.

I really hate the way he just ignores the meaning of the word communist - it has a meaning, and that meaning isn't "progressive Democrat." Grr.

Anyway, good call on the part of the NAACP. West isn't doing anything for the advancement of anybody.

Let him talk at teabag rallies. He will feel right at home and they might appreciate what he has to say.

The NAACP got involved financially and legally with the defense of the Scottsboro Boys in the Thirties. The American Communist Party also was working for their release and acquittal. And the association between the two groups commenced with the NAACP being branded an arm of the ACP, affirmatively and consistently denied by the NAACP but not believed by certain groups and parts of the government. Dr. King's motivations were questioned as far as advancing communism.

Now that Allen West has made his wholesale condemnation of the democratic party as "communists", it's debatable for his motives. To garner any support by NAACP based on his heritage and ethnicity by themselves or to prepare to attack them if they don't show appropriate respect to him. We'll have to wait and see.

and the teabaggers don't really like black people. They might pretend to like you for a while, as long as they think your loud mouth is advancing their cause. However, as soon as you're no longer useful to them they'll toss you under the bus faster than you can say "communist".

I'm sure he would have just gone on and on about how he was the "new Harriet Tubman" there to lead all the stupid, gullible blacks away from the "Democrat (sic) Plantation."
