Secret anti-gay, religious right FB group plots online attacks against LGBT community

Alvin McEwen of Holy Bullies and Headless Monsters dropped a bombshell this morning: an anonymous source tipped him off to a secret Facebook group called “Truth4Time,” which serves as a central gathering point for anti-LGBT religious right activists plotting online attacks against the LGBT community on sites like YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook:

Truth4Time is supposed to be a library of anti-gay articles, blogs, and other materials for its members to use in their fight against the supposed “gay agenda.” Apparently the group has a large lists of documents which contains anti-gay information (i.e. propaganda) that members are invited to use. . .

[The group contains] public figures and prominent members of the anti-gay industry, including:

•a Fox News pundit,
•former employees of Concerned Women for America and The Family Research Council,
•a prominent member of the American Family Association,
•long term anti-gay activists, including those who testified in front of Congress,
•prominent members of the so-called “ex-gay” movement,
•a member of a state legislature,
•college professors from right-wing universities,
•activists who have called for laws declaring homosexuality illegal,
•members of a prominent anti-gay marriage equality group, and
•various religious right talking heads who us bloggers have had to refute many times in the past.

1. It's sad to say there's nothing really new here

except an attempt to co-opt technology to spread lies and violence against the LGBT community.

God, I'm so weary of fighting them. There seems to be a bottomless well of bigotry and outright hatred. It seems that the anti-gay factions will never be satisfied until everyone on earth is as miserable as they are.

I hope one day we no longer have to deal with these bigoted, psychotic douchebags - none of which should dare call themselves Christian.

it's almost as if the anti gay crowd is willing to openly lie and cheat to get their way. Who could imagine that anti gay propagandists would lie or keep secretes?

5. This really needs to be pointed out:

The group's mission statement:

It’s pretty well know [sic] that if and when you attend a homosexual activist conference (like HRC and others), they give them a handful of goals to accomplish. One of the goals is to take the time to go online and post “jamming” messages on as many sites as possible. This is definitely happening, and happening more and more.

We need extremely trustworthy people who want to engage with and debate the homosexualists online to counter their disinformation/propaganda campaign. Once we assemble enough people, we will “jam-back” on other sites too, such as Youtube [sic], Myspace, Tumblr, Twitter, Google Plus, etc, and any chat forum, blog, or pro-homo articles that have a comment section. We’ll start with facebook [sic] pages first though.

Along with countering their messages with facts, we will also use their tactic of “gaining up” [sic] on their comments and pages, and report/flag it multiple times to get them removed. The goal is to assemble at least 50-100 people and exponentially keep adding more warriors, so it can be a non-stop thing. When people are busy working, there will hopefully be others who are free during those times. And some days and nights, by chance, we’ll all be online full force. Thank for you [sic] help!

There's some here who would have us interact with such actions. That is terribly sad. What is worse, not only do I have to say it once, but I have to repeat myself: I will not have a discussion with anyone on why I am not a pedophile because I am gay. I should not have to have that discussion with Democrats nor have that discussion on a Democratic board.

Luckily we haven't heard much of that weak-kneed bullshit since 2009.

11. This is happening, and it's not just the anti-gay forces

There's another thread at DU today in which people once again complain about having to block former friends or seemingly moderate conservative acquaintances on Facebook because they've suddenly become non-stop spewers of right-wing propaganda.

I've also noticed an increasing number of right-wing posts even at leftie websites, blogs, and Facebook pages -- and I wondered why these people didn't seem to have anything better to do with themselves than insert their opinions where they would just get shot down.

But this manifesto explains a lot of what is going on. There are right-wing groups like this out there that are deliberately "jamming" any site where they're not actively banned. And those annoying Facebook acquaintances may not be conscious participants, but by unthinkingly "sharing" all the right-wing crap that comes their way, they're helping to clog up the pipes.

The question, though, is how to counter it. Since their intention is to create static, arguing with them just makes the problem worse. There has to be a price for this kind of socially destructive behavior if it's going to be discouraged.

12. Never ceases to amaze me how so many people obsess over homosexuality

Even IF you accept the religious explanation that homosexuality is a sin - and that is a HUGE "if" - there are so many other "sins" in the Bible. Where is the outrage over pride? When is there going to be a campaign against gluttony? Seeing how many of these anti-gay idiots are obese, I'm guessing they're not going to be at the forefront of any anti-gluttony campaign.
