Hate to say it, but I defend Chris Christie in the BruceGate scandal...

The picture of him "sleeping" is total bullshit. While I certainly would have been bummed out sitting next him, and him taking up half my seat in addition to his, I highly doubt he was "sleeping." I tend to do this at concerts, too...just close my eyes and totally immerse myself in the music instead of looking at the backs of people heads in front of me. Not necessarily for long periods of time, but certainly long enough for a photographer to make it look as if I was sleeping.

The larger point is (no Christie pun intended) is there is so much else to dislike about Chris Christie! I don't care if he was lifting his shirt and showing Bruce his man-boobs...it's unimportant. His policies and politics alone are bad enough. Do we really care if he slept during a Springsteen concert? Really?

I agree. A true music fan closes his eyes and embraces what he is hearing...n/t monmouth Apr 2012 #4

Picking on him for nonsense like this takes away from the legit grievances we all have with him.

I don't see it as much "over" reaction, as probably a defense mechanism. He can claim he's comfortable in his own body -- I don't even know if he does make that claim -- but it's hard to imagine the other crit about his physical appearance don't weigh in there somewhere. Oops...another bad pun. So he tends to get a bit heated and over-explain, over-compensate, when confronted with stuff like this, when he'd be better off just shutting his face.

who really gives a flying fuck about christies sleeping at the boss's concert or not. Personally I have to go to the other room when Bruce comes on cause I don't like to see him at all. Love his music with a passion though. I just can't stand to watch him perform. I was watching a clip with the boss with U2 at some gala or something and the bass player for U2 gave the boss the stink eye a few times. I like U2 and think they may just very well be the best band ever.

I mean nothing personal to you Atman,

And I don't have any urge to. There are a lot of bands I love that other DUers would hate. There are a lot of Springsteen fans on DU who will say I'm committing heresy by dissing "The Boss." It just doesn't matter that much to me...it was a fucking concert, and Christie was either rockin' out, wicked stoned, totally into the music, or sound asleep. Or all four. I just don't fucking care, and I can't believe the media -- THE GOP MEDIA, so that can make it somehow "partisan," is taking us down this rabbit hole.
