White House ’16, Clinton It's hard to imagine Hillary Rodham Clinton not running for president again. "It would be shocking," Tad Devine, a Democratic strategist who is advising Sen. Sanders, told The Associated Press. Sanders has been courting college students and liberals in Iowa and New Hampshire. He has maintained a large email distribution list, giving him a way of reaching activists, but is still more likely to shape the debate than compete for delegates, according to the AP story in the Brattleboro Reformer. Postal Service The U.S. Postal Service next week plans to begin a new round of plant closings and consolidations that will affect dozens of mail-processing centers, despite calls from more than half the members of the outgoing Senate to postpone the changes. Earlier this month, 30 senators issued a letter to Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe urging USPS not to move forward with its “network rationalization” program until the agency has completed its analyses of potential impacts, The Washington Post reported. College Students Former Gov. Phil Hoff is going to serve as the honorary chairman of the Vermont Student Assistance Corporation's 50th Anniversary Council. VSAC was created by the Legislature during Hoff's tenure as governor in 1965 to help Vermonters plan and pay for college. VSAC President Scott Giles says it was Hoff's leadership that made higher education a life-changing opportunity for Vermonters, AP reported.
School Consolidation Three Vermont communities are again pondering merging their school districts so that a single board would oversee the 10 public schools in Essex, Essex Junction and Westford. The idea was rejected in 2007, but now there are new state incentives and growing economic pressures that have revived the idea, AP reported.
