Ann Romney: ‘I Love The Fact That There Are Women Out There Who Don’t Have A Choice’ And ‘Must Go To Work’

By Alex Seitz-Wald

In an emotional speech about the difficulty of motherhood and life on the campaign trail, Ann Romney used an odd choice of words to discuss mothers who are forced to work while raising their children.

Ann Romney was at the center of a national discussion recently after a Democratic consultant charged that the would-be future first lady couldn’t possibly understand the plight of working mothers because she had the luxury to stay home and devote herself full time to raising her kids. The Romney campaign fired back, accusing Democrats of lacking respect for stay at home moms.

The issue was largely dismissed after a few days as a ginned-up “silly season” controversy, but Ann Romney’s comments last night at the Connecticut Republican Party’s Prescott Bush Awards Dinner could potentially reignite the issue. After discussing how she understands the challenges mothers face, Romney said, according to BuzzFeed:

Romney alluded to the fact that not all women can stay at home saying, “I love the fact that there are women out there who don’t have a choice and they must go to work and they still have to raise the kids. Thank goodness that we value those people too. And sometimes life isn’t easy for any of us.”

It seems Romney was trying to express empathy for women who don’t have the option to stay at home, as she did. But the comment that she “love(s)” that some women “don’t have a choice” and must work is unusual, to say the least, and could lead to a new round of charges that the Romneys don’t understand average Americans, given their enormous wealth.

This pretty much cinches their connection to those who have worked to kill the New Deal.

All of it is coming out in the open now, their faces no longer are hidden from view, as they see their victory at hand.

But have the voters been deprived of education and history too long to notice?

Or did they drink the anti-socialist, anti-Roosevelt kool-aid so often their brains atrophied and not realize what it means for their own lives?

...because she has been part of the upper .000005 percent (and that's no exaggeration) for the majority
of her life.

Ann Romney has absolutely no idea what people in the middle- or upper-middle classes endure. We
might as well be from Pluto.

She can't speak about it without making these grave errors--because she's giving a speech that someone
else has written for her. She's not speaking from the heart, or with any meaning attached to her words.
She's reading off of a card, flashing a smile and hoping that she can muster a few genuine facial expressions
that will bamboozle some voters.

These people make me sick.

And btw--I don't care if someone makes millions. More power to them. However, these "elites" who want
to run the world---who couldn't care one whit about "average people" until their votes are needed--really
are revolting.

Ann Romney reminds me of Effie from The Hunger Games!

Yeah, and the chip stains' grease

You will never understand

You're amazed that they exist
and they burn so bright,
while you can only wonder why.

You'll never live like common people,

If she had paid attention to sentence structure and grammar in her prep-school English classes, whatever it was she was trying to say would never have ended up expressed so poorly, nor would she have been exposed for the nose-in-the-air snooty parody of a princess she has apparently tried to be for most of her life.

"I love the fact that there are women out there who don't have a choice...?" Refrigerator magnet speech-making. I think she lost her "appreciate" magnet and figured "love" was pretty much the same sentiment so she threw that on the door with the rest of the words - if she even thought about what she was saying at all.

Go back to sentence diagramming, please... "...And sometimes life isn't easy for any of us." is part of a compound sentence, not a sentence in itself.

I'm not a G-N, but seriously - even the kidlet learned how to write better in her (public) Jr. High School creative writing course. Ms. Romney exibits that she is not thinking, nor does she care about the subject she is speaking to; she's just throwing words around because it's obviously expected her to be the "loving, nurturing" stereotype of a presidential wife and - well, say something.

It makes her sound ignorant, illiterate, careless and demeaning to those "beneath her social class". I don't think that's the perspective she wants to show to the public - and if she ever asked me (which she won't, because working people like me are invisible to her), I would advise that she should get herself a tutor and brush up on her communication and diplomacy skills.
