(6,960 posts)Anwar al-Awlaki has been dead since September 2011.
I think they were trying to inflate themselves into 'mythical' status for other extremist jihadist murderers.
I doubt al-Awlaki had anything to do with planning or financing what happened in France in the past couple of days.

(12,482 posts)The guy was an enemy fighter actively engaged in asymmetrical warfare with the US. Obama smoked his sorry ass with a drone. He put out a hit list with the Charlie Hebdo cartoonists on it years ago. He got what was coming tob him. Fuck him and his apologists like Glenn Greenwald.

Is calling out of another DUer against the rules?
You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Sat Jan 10, 2015, 01:12 AM, and the Jury voted 2-5 to LEAVE IT.
Juror #1 voted to HIDE IT

Juror #2 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: It used to be frowned on, back when we had rules around here. Msanthrope is taking her chances to make a point about Sabrina. That point is well taken, but it'd be nice if this community could get back to more reasonable, civil behavior. DU is sliding down into a free-for-all when even long time members make petty jabs and reduce a serious discussion into Meta malarkey.
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE

Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: wait...don't posters like the one featured in the link call something like this "truthtopower"?
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE

Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE

Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.

(82,849 posts)That whole "due process" concept is sooo overrated. And the winds that now blow with the laws cut down are easily weathered by those who have wielded the scythe. The rest of us? Well, ask the guys at Charlie Hebdo.

More: Yes. What would you do? Cut a great road through the law to get after the Devil?
Roper: I'd cut down every law in England to do that!
More: Oh? And when the last law was down, and the Devil turned round on you where would you hide, Roper, the laws all being flat? This country's planted thick with laws from coast to coast man's laws, not God's and if you cut them down and you're just the man to do it d'you really think you could stand upright in the winds that would blow then? Yes, I'd give the Devil benefit of law, for my own safety's sake.

(37,549 posts)board is the presumption that the due process that Awlaki was entitled to involved an Article III court process while he was a fugitive.
Nothing could be further from the law, and the truth.
As a non-custodial active member of AlQaeda, Awlaki deserved kill or capture. Had he turned himself in (and let's not forget the Yemeni murder conviction) he would have been entitled to all the protections outlined in Boumediene v. Bush.
Let me ask you something---when you get a parking ticket, does your due process rights mean you get an attorney? A grand jury? Or, is your means for redress---your due process--- different than if you commit a felony?
