All this Cosby stuff reminds me of an old Eddie Murphy stand up bit...
It's either from his 'Delirious' or 'Raw' concert movies I think, or around that time possibly. Murphy did a bit about a time when he apparently got a call from Cosby at his home (Murphy does the voice and everything in the bit, it's hilarious), and at first he was all excited that Bill Cosby was actually on the phone and everything. Anyway, this didn't last too long as Cosby soon started complaining to him about Murphy using foul language all the time in his stand up comedy. Cosby lectured and moralized to him and I guess Murphy listened to him for a while till he'd finally had enough, then told him he was offended by Cosby's phone call and hung up. Something like that, and Murphy turned it into a piece of comedy gold in his retelling of the phone call. At the end of the bit, Murphy says he later called Richard Pryor to tell him what had happened, and Richard's reply was "Tell Bill to have a Coke and a smile and shut the f*ck up!"
Murphy may have had his own peccadilloes splashed all over the front page a number of years back with that transvestite hooker he once 'offered a ride' to in his car, and Pryor's personal life was an open book as everyone knows, but at least those guys never went around preaching and moralizing to the rest of the African-American community - or the rest of the world - the way Cosby has.
A Coke and a smile... and maybe some Jell-O pudding.
