(68,644 posts)Let's face it, this didn't occur in a vacuum and it's not really about cartoons.
I'm guessing everybody in the MIC in our nation and many others, the same ones that have benefited from the other endless wars.
Someone is loving the blow back all the way to the bank.

(114,904 posts)murder people who had nothing to do with their grievances about imperialism and war. Those who view this through the lens of "it's all the fault of the MIC" are as blind as those who claim that the jihadists are just murderous barbarians. It's reductive to think that there is any one dominant cause when there are so many strands so interwoven.

(24,692 posts)Alex Jones hosted ultraconservative Harlem pastor James David Manning last week to discuss the terrorist attacks in Paris. Manning, earning his spot on the conspiracy-minded program, theorized that countries like France are suffering terrorist attacks instead of the U.S. because President Obama has made a deal to support groups such as ISIS, Al Qaeda and the Taliban in return for postponing attacks against America until he has completed his term as president.
Manning said that other countries like France are facing attacks because Obama has made a deal with terrorists and is opening up the doors for others to be attacked.
He bravely added the caveat that he doesnt necessarily believe everything he just said, insisting that hes simply asking as a question about whether Obama has cut a deal with terrorists to protect America during his presidency. Jones, never afraid to fully embrace a conspiracy theory, told Manning that at a certain level that is definitely going on.

(18,290 posts)As the pile of bodies in France demonstrated (yet again), there's nothing imaginary about the dangers radical Islam poses.
Will corrupt deals be made with private military contractors, and will they be funded by tax dollars, probably unaccounted? No question. And all of it has been made possible by the all-too-real murderous actions of fundamentalist Islamists, who, in their own way, are the MIC's best friends.

(269,054 posts)created by lunatic imperialist policies Are they murderous - yes but we killed, tortured and continue to slaughter with no regard to due process of law anywhere on the planet.
War and fear are very profitable - maybe we're addicted to both.

(114,904 posts)by imperial powers over the centuries (and I don't buy that that's the sole reason for such attacks as the one in Paris this past week), those ultimately responsible for heinous acts are those who pull the trigger or the pin, murdering people who had nothing to do with those injustices.
The bulk of condemnation belongs to those who commit these acts. Why is that so hard to grasp?
malaise
(269,054 posts)what about said murderous acts committed by our governments? Those perpetrators must also be condemned.
That said - really nice to see you posting even if we disagree on many things. Happy New Year cali - I was wondering where you were.

(114,904 posts)and most DUers aren't either. but again, ultimately, those who pull the trigger or unleash their military aggressively (ie bushco) or drone (bushco and President Obama) are responsible for the deaths they incur- no matter the perceived injustices they are responding to.
Happy New Year, Malaise. Lucky you in sunny Jamaica. (It's been stupid bitterly cold here)
