General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsIf we can have gun exceptions in GD, we should be able to have religion exceptions.
This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by Skinner (a host of the General Discussion forum).
Religion and whether it should be subjected to satire is about as hot a topic as can be. It should be an exception for a week or two.
I am saying this because I saw Nance's OP on the subject was locked and I think others have been locked too.

(32,886 posts)I haven't seen anything but that doesnt mean it wasnt there.

(20,277 posts)It has been quite awhile since I have been a GD host, but a halt to the gun threads was finally called.

RELIGION
Threads about current events related to religion, and threads about church-state issues are permitted under normal circumstances.
Threads about the existence/non-existence of God, threads discussing the merits (or lack thereof) of religion in general, and threads discussing the truth/untruth of religious dogma are not permitted under normal circumstances and should be posted under Religion.
Open discussion of religion is permitted during very high-profile news events which are heavily covered across all newsmedia.

(23,946 posts)Since we can not post a locked OP here to compare with the SOP...all resistance is futile.

(20,277 posts)to be a host now. I haven't looked into what other criteria there may be. Changes were made because it was getting weird and disruptive in there.

(26,117 posts)I think every DUer should give it a try.
There is a maximum quota of 30 Hosts. Hosts cannot serve for more than 90 consecutive days and must maintain a 100% chance of serving on a jury.

(65,616 posts)It has to do with current events so I am just a curious as you are. Especially since other threads in the same vein are still unlocked and getting replies.

(5,815 posts)It didn't seem any more out of line than any other recent OP on the topic that hasn't been.

(32,886 posts)alert. If hers was locked there are several dozen others that should be locked, as you noted.

(5,815 posts)I'm not her biggest fan, but the OP was perfectly in line with other OPs posted within the past two weeks. Heck, there are two very active threads on the same subject still running.
Seems odd to lock GD threads on a subject that is raging across Western media right now.

(50,743 posts)Scrolling down I see numerous threads on religion unlocked yet Nance's thread is singled out for a lock. Either the exception on religious threads is over and the other threads will be locked as well or the decision to lock only some threads is unfairly subjective, imo.

(24,655 posts)Seemed to me to be more a concern about civility.
Sure the replies had the potential for getting into the "validity or non-validity of religion" area, but given the highly topical and current discussions concerning free speech and religion I don't see how it wouldn't qualify for an exception.

(27,985 posts)I didn't say 'disruptive' meta. Just meta and the discussion was long and interesting. I imagine my thread and a few others are also about to be locked to keep up appearances.
