(1,596 posts)There will never be another like him. A perfect storm of a Presidency, in the good way. Just imagine what could be done without so many assholes in the mix, and I'm not only thinking of the GOP.

(20,219 posts)Lost an abusive, racist, alcoholic boyfriend over that! Lost some so-called friends. Had some doubts when the negativity got deep here.
But I think it's the truth.
He held out realistic hope always based in ethical ideals, and backed up his goals moving forward with the record of successes achieved already. (I watched on whitehouse.gov, which had split screen with added visual info)

(19,564 posts)Public speaking is one of the things I think Obama excels at more than most, having said that, even I was impressed with his performance tonight.
The feisty Obama is much better in my opinion. He still won't go as far as I think is needed but it gives me hope we can survive these two years of Repuke majorities.
It was his best SOTU

(3,544 posts)This man will go down in history as the best president of the century. For this country to come back after 6 years, is unprecedented. Is there anyone out there that thinks we'd be this far into a recovery, after what Bush did and damn near took us all down? And then to deal with all the racism and obstructionism, and still be where we're at today? I'm quite impressed.
Obama can walk the walk, and talk the talk. I'd vote for him again, if I could.
lovemydog
(11,833 posts)He said it's time to move past 9/11 and fear-based politics. That's significant and historical.
Time for bold actions that expand opportunity. Like free community college, child-care initiatives, raising the minimum wage. He will veto any economic bill that doesn't help strengthen the middle class.
It's up to us and others to keep moving forward.
SmittynMo
(3,544 posts)free community college and fair pay? Absolutely nothing, which tells me they could care less about the middle class. Typical.

(14,576 posts)America is very, very ready for a populist message. Last I saw, Obama's message was viewed favorably by a 37 percent margin, and most agreed among Dems, Republicans AND Independents.
lovemydog
(11,833 posts)That's what we need now. I love how he said to Congress if you can't support your own family on the current minimum wage, then vote to raise it for the hardest-working Americans!

(5,477 posts)I wish that he had stumped with about 25% of this a few months ago; the GOP would have never taken anywhere near as many seats!
Had to love Joni Ernst's 'GOP Response to the State of the Union Address' that started out with, 'I'm not going to respond to the speech". She looked sort of like Dana Carvey doing the Church Lady character, but with a Stepford Wives spin to it.
freshwest
(53,661 posts)He's learned the hard way that he has been lied about, edited out and distorted on MSM. So he traveled almost daily through all of 2014, often stopping in several states in one day. He told real people the same things he talked about tonight.
