Literally live while the president is speaking pundits are blogging either "fact" checks or response to proposals that the president has put out. They don't even wait 24 hrs in the news cycle anymore to digest the SOTU. Today you have to have your answer live for the microphone and blog. That's great except I imagine it takes a lot of actual leg work to figure out if 2 years community college is a good plan. You might need some kind of budget study. Economic majors can probably write a thesis on analyzing the impact to the economy alone. But you see all that takes... time. We don't have time any more. What we have is some person that if your lucky has 2 years of community college speaking into a microphone what they "feel" about 2 years of community college. Of course you don't even good commentary when they've had to time to study something. For instance Obama states his desire to close GITMO. Conservative Pundit is worried that might not be a good idea. No specifics, no impact analysis no information. He's just worried. Obama has been proposing to close GITMO for 7 years now. If you can't think of a real tangible result of a study that shows a real worry after knowing this was going to happen for 7 years then perhaps you should shut up and relax. It is like staged play acting. I know what each pundit clown is going to say before their mouth opens. It is all theatre.
Then we cut to the tweeter feed to find out how the proposal is trending in the social media. Within two days of the news cycle the state of the union will be dead. The media doesn't have time to do hard things anymore. They exist more as friendly gossip chats than actual journalists. By Sunday the usual gang of conservatives will be all over the morning shows saying the same sound bites we all know by heart and the media will lick it up. Meanwhile the president said a lot of things worth thinking about tonight if only we spend the time to think about them and worry less about what these actors "think" about them.

Reminds me of some of the GD chatter during the SOTU.
