claimed it was in case of emergency they needed to be able to contact someone BUT I wasn't comfortable giving them this info but I was harassed until I did. We gave a set of keys to my Dad and demanded to know his name and where he lived.

(38,187 posts)no home owner's association or condo association to answer to. Even my landlord, I had one while I did the "rent to own" thing with my place, didn't ask that many questions or care what I did with the place.
I hope you can get some privacy and freedom somehow. That sounds like an invasion of privacy to me, but then again, I live in my own place and make my own rules, other than the very lenient ones the city and county have. I guess other people would prefer the group rules thing?

(14,449 posts)I purposefully moved to HOA. More positive then negative for me. I know many are not wanting that but I do.

(38,187 posts)It's good that there is variety like that.

(112,204 posts)knowing that I never bought a condominium. I don't think that I could tolerate having outsiders butting into my business. At least renting an apartment I always had the option of moving after the lease expired if there was something did not like about the management.

(49,212 posts)I guess it's a host issue whether every last thing your wife says, every dispute with your condo board, every minor stress or inconvenience in your life are GD or lounge material, but if you're going to post them to GD can you at least keep them in one thread and not clog the board up with a daily update what the lunch special was at Del Boca Vista Phase II?

(46,192 posts)how many OP's have been posted on this topic alone in the past 3 days?
and nobody can question them or criticize them?
who else here gets such a dispensation?

(115,677 posts)So, in answer, looks like only this OP has "been posted on this topic alone in the past 3 days".
You got me curious so I checked.
CreekDog

Ok?
I don't see any clogging up.

(46,192 posts)my first post in this thread is barely above the one you're responding to.
if you read it, you will see the context of my mention of the number of OP's on the topic.
are you asking me to post that post in its entirety again because you didn't read it the first time before responding to me?

but surely all this harassment must be changing how you feel about the place?
Edits to clarify that I meant the harassment from the condo association.

(26,582 posts)Did you not get a copy of that during closing? Especially the cat thing would be covered in that.

(5,325 posts)Once there was a leak into my kitchen coming from the unit upstairs when no one was there. It was several hours before we could get in contact with someone who could let maintenance in to search for the source of the problem, meanwhile a small, steady stream of water was coming through my light fixture.
Our building has a lock box where we can leave keys for emergency use and, purportedly, only building board members have access to that box. We aren't required to leave keys there and I don't, only because our building president, while a general likeable guy, isn't someone I would want to decide what is an emergency and what he's just curious about. So I've left keys with a couple on the second floor who I do trust completely and let the board know that they have them. That way one of them can make the emergency/non-emergency determination. Problem solved.

(15,429 posts)Most likely, this is a condition and you must comply.

(188 posts)if you do not give the HOA a "key on file", then in the case of a real emergency, the HOA , and its agents have no liability if they have to gain entrance to your unit by breaking in the door. I never supply a "file key" . If I were you, I would change your locks. This may inconvenience you, if they need to get in for Fire inspections and the like, but they need to give you notice for such entry.

(39,215 posts)practicing alcoholics and had given keys out to there party friends. We also had a young man who gave keys to his high school friends and would let them hang out when they skipped school. In order to be fair they asked all of us who had keys to get into the building.
That did not really work as both of the above cases would go down and put a piece of cardboard in that door so others could get in.

(30,481 posts)Most all I have worked with require the key itself. It is an extremely good policy to have. When water starts pouring on your head from the upstairs condo owner, and they are out of town, you will learn why.

(11,417 posts)Before you buy you are given the CC&Rs. You agree to live by them when you purchase.
You should not have purchased,
if that is what you did, if you did not want to be subject to them.
It is very hard to keep a community together and finance the repairs to common areas without CC&Rs.
