Another issue about the Condo Association. They demanded to know who had keys to our condo. They

claimed it was in case of emergency they needed to be able to contact someone BUT I wasn't comfortable giving them this info but I was harassed until I did. We gave a set of keys to my Dad and demanded to know his name and where he lived.

no home owner's association or condo association to answer to. Even my landlord, I had one while I did the "rent to own" thing with my place, didn't ask that many questions or care what I did with the place.

I hope you can get some privacy and freedom somehow. That sounds like an invasion of privacy to me, but then again, I live in my own place and make my own rules, other than the very lenient ones the city and county have. I guess other people would prefer the group rules thing?

knowing that I never bought a condominium. I don't think that I could tolerate having outsiders butting into my business. At least renting an apartment I always had the option of moving after the lease expired if there was something did not like about the management.

I guess it's a host issue whether every last thing your wife says, every dispute with your condo board, every minor stress or inconvenience in your life are GD or lounge material, but if you're going to post them to GD can you at least keep them in one thread and not clog the board up with a daily update what the lunch special was at Del Boca Vista Phase II?

my first post in this thread is barely above the one you're responding to.

if you read it, you will see the context of my mention of the number of OP's on the topic.

are you asking me to post that post in its entirety again because you didn't read it the first time before responding to me?

Once there was a leak into my kitchen coming from the unit upstairs when no one was there. It was several hours before we could get in contact with someone who could let maintenance in to search for the source of the problem, meanwhile a small, steady stream of water was coming through my light fixture.

Our building has a lock box where we can leave keys for emergency use and, purportedly, only building board members have access to that box. We aren't required to leave keys there and I don't, only because our building president, while a general likeable guy, isn't someone I would want to decide what is an emergency and what he's just curious about. So I've left keys with a couple on the second floor who I do trust completely and let the board know that they have them. That way one of them can make the emergency/non-emergency determination. Problem solved.

if you do not give the HOA a "key on file", then in the case of a real emergency, the HOA , and its agents have no liability if they have to gain entrance to your unit by breaking in the door. I never supply a "file key" . If I were you, I would change your locks. This may inconvenience you, if they need to get in for Fire inspections and the like, but they need to give you notice for such entry.

practicing alcoholics and had given keys out to there party friends. We also had a young man who gave keys to his high school friends and would let them hang out when they skipped school. In order to be fair they asked all of us who had keys to get into the building.

That did not really work as both of the above cases would go down and put a piece of cardboard in that door so others could get in.

Most all I have worked with require the key itself. It is an extremely good policy to have. When water starts pouring on your head from the upstairs condo owner, and they are out of town, you will learn why.

Before you buy you are given the CC&Rs. You agree to live by them when you purchase.
You should not have purchased,
if that is what you did, if you did not want to be subject to them.
It is very hard to keep a community together and finance the repairs to common areas without CC&Rs.
