she was actually elated about all the poor kids wearing breadbags on their feet... misery loves company? Or are we to conclude that poor kids wearing breadbags on their feet is a good thing that we should all aspire to, therefore, falling wages is also a good thing because there are breadbags everywhere and we wouldn't have to pay for them or..?

than she could ever imagine, even in her worst nightmare.

Plastic bags dont weigh much. I'm sure, if properly folded and air smooshed out, one could send her a bunch for the price of a stamp or two.

and when I got to that point, my head exploded.

I was born and raised in Iowa. We were poor...not this wanna be poor that these people do today, but really poor, by government standards. We lived in a 1 bedroom house until I was in 6th grade, and then moved to low income housing. We were on welfare until I was in 9th grade. We got food stamps, health care, dental care....

WE NEVER WORE BAGS ON OUR FEET!!!!!!!! I call BS. My mom could still get us boots, and this was the woman who made a lot of our clothes.

I asked my mom about this...My grand mas had told her she did it....during the depression...in Iowa.

So the woman who was raised on a farm had no farm boot...BS!!!!

She probably saw really poor kids at school doing the bag thing..... and pointed and laughed at them.

That or one of her staff gave her the idea for her "speech".

My mom didn't grow up with a lot of money, but grandpa kept 4 girls in shoes and boots, and that was in the 50's. I grew up in the 70's and high school in the 80's....I guess her trickle down economics didn't work for her

While living a certain way or being in a certain group may grant a useful perspective, Republicans / American conservatives try to substitute identity for ideas all the time.

It's what people do that matters, not who they are or where they come from. Being poor is no guarantee of understanding what needs to be done about poverty, just as being a woman has not helped Ernst understand what's wrong with the "personhood for zygotes" law she supports.

Rather than show sympathy for the poor, or for women, or for people of color, they simply find "one of them" and put them in front of a microphone, so long as they're willing to say that the status quo is fine, fine, fine.

Ernst didn't talk about helping the poor. She didn't talk about solving the issue. She didn't even express sympathy or empathy. She just claimed ownership of it, to lend credence to whatever nonsense she was spouting -- I really couldn't even tell what she was blathering about through her horrendous, staring, blank-eyed tour bus cadence.

This is a person who called Obama a dictator, and claimed that the U.N. has a secret plan to kick Iowans off of their farms. Her claimed qualification for office was some kind of creepy joke about castrating hogs (so she will be able to "cut pork?&quot .

Republicans get creepier and creepier. This one is some kind of shiny sockpuppet with the same glittering sociopathy in her eyes Mitt Romney has.

She may have grown up poor (or not?) but she has a an entitled rich white man's grasp of the world.
