House GOP leaders try to quell female revolt on abortion bill

Up to two dozen Republicans — many of them women — might vote against the 20-week abortion ban, GOP sources say.

House Republican leaders are struggling with a more-aggressive-than-expected revolt by female legislators against the anti-abortion bill scheduled for a floor vote Thursday.

Several GOP sources estimate that up to two dozen Republicans — many of them women — might vote against the 20-week abortion ban, whose critics call the measure politically wrongheaded and harsh. The optics of a large number of women opposing a piece of abortion legislation could be politically tricky for the party, which has had to counter Democratic accusations that it’s waging a “war on women.”

The bill’s scheduled vote is on the same day as the annual anti-abortion March for Life in Washington.

The women — led by North Carolina Rep. Renee Ellmers — have been meeting with GOP leadership Wednesday to see if they can tweak the bill to satisfy their concerns. They’re mostly worried that the bill allows abortions after the 20th week of pregnancy only in cases of rape and incest, and only if the victim has filed a police report. Many opponents believe the victim shouldn’t have to go to police.

(opposing that and the bill against DACA)

and the leadership fights perfectly a perfectly reasonable reform (or one which should be at least).

My point was that if she continues to ignore the diktats of the TP/religious right, she will be primaried.

Good thing that 62% of eligible voters stayed home on election day, huh?

So this is ALL they really care about.

Could happen to one of their own, and they wouldn't want police involved.

Do you think there is something wrong with allowing women who do not want to report a rape to have an abortion?

Or do you think that the religious right is wrong to want to make reporting mandatory to consider a rape a rape?

And the chickenshit DA won't present it to a grand jury and indict, because SHE (The elected D.A.) has to protect the good old boys? And the sheriff's office has evidence of the victim ON TAPE talking on the phone to the perp, describing all the things he's doing as a public service to help these lonely women? When it's actually sexual assault but he thinks they want to be molested?

and the DA's reason for NOT prosecuting, despite solid evidence on tape? "She acted like a typical victim."

Chickenshit DAs.

Happened to a friend of mine.

there's a bill pending that would appoint a public defender to the Zygote, so at least a small part of a women's body would get representation.

Crazy ass Republicans.

is former DA from Weld County CO, Ken Buck - R, who famously declined to prosecute an admitted rapist because the victim, in Buck's estimation, was merely suffering a case of "buyer's remorse." He's also on tape advising people to vote for him because "I don't wear high heels".

You can bet that Buck is very happy to be part of his party's very real war on women.

Like before abortion was legal in the US, when they would go on a discreet "vacation" to a country where it was legal.

This anti-abortion legislation just serves to punish poor and middle class women.
