A moment of prayer - from a good friend

A man is walking through the forest and runs across a bear, who begins chasing him. Running for his life, the man shouts, "Oh God! Please help me!" God responds, "Why should I help you? You've never called on me before, but now that you're in trouble, you expect me to be there for you?" The man replies, "Well, at least make the bear into a good Christian then!" Suddenly the bear stops, puts his paws together, and says "Dear Lord, thank you for this meal you've set before me..."

this is a good one for the religious. From my POV, the guy shouldn't be running in the first place...

But it is a good joke.

Mostly we deal with grizzlies around here, both black bears and grizzlies are dangerous...

Although I did establish somewhat of a relationship with a bobcat once. He hung around our house because I was feeding the squirrels and rabbits. One magical time we walked side by side on opposite sides of our fence. I talked to him and he seemed to be listening. As he got to the end of our yard and entered the neighbor's yard he rolled around in the grass then meandered back to the golf course. Just magical.

(My husband was watching us and was completely horrified)

I have little fear of any of the big guys, I totally respect them and what they could do to me if they wanted. I haven't seen a bobcat in a long time but one took a dump behind my car last summer, right next to my cabin. There's a family of them living in the woods about half a mile from me. Bears I see often and they frequent my yard as well, thus I keep bear spray handy, look out the widows before exiting. Sometimes there are elk, moose or even a bison in yard.

Your experience is pretty cool. Had a wolf "shadow" me while hiking last October, that was awesome once I figured out that it wasn't a bear or a cougar looking to pounce on me. Saw a wolf just yesterday, in fact. Wolves normally don't bother with humans unless they have a dog with them so I really enjoy when they are curious about me enough to check me out.

Too bad your husband didn't get pictures!! Still a magical experience to be near wildlife.

Awesome that you have those experiences with wolves. I love wolves. HATE, HATE, HATE how they are being killed off by ranchers. I sign at least one petition a day trying to stop it.

people who hate wolves as there are wolf advocates. They are hunted down for no good reason other than they eat meat and people see them as government over-reach. They don't get that there is this law called the Endangered Species Act which contains three mandates:

1. Identify species in danger of extinction (with specific criteria for determining this)

2. Identify Critical Habitat - meaning figuring out where they can thrive in a natural setting.

3. Develop a Recovery Plan - meaning WE HAVE TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

Most Americans get about one and a half of those mandates. I give talks, formerly as an agent of an NGO and lately as a federal employee about that and the plight of wolves on the landscape, it always comes as a big surprise to a lot of folks when I tell them about the three mandates and what they mean.

I have been talking about this since before the reintroduction, which was 20 years ago this past week, and have my enemies in government and the private sector because of my activism. I am thrilled they are here and even more thrilled that they come to my yard on occasion... and bears too.

And thank you for your support on the issue. If only tptb would listen.

I think everyone should be amused by it, regardless of religious convictions or lack thereof.
