Tony Perkins: Gays 'Persecute' Christians By Making Them View Photos Of Gay People On Facebook

Family Research Council President Tony Perkins invited his colleague Peter Sprigg on to “Washington Watch” yesterday to discuss an Idaho state legislative committee’s decision not to include protections for LGBT people in a proposed nondiscrimination law.

Sprigg said that what the Idaho legislature should really do is remain “morally neutral” in order for “the marketplace of ideas” to sort out whether or not it’s ok to discriminate against gay people, rather than making “a legal statement that it is morally wrong to disapprove of homosexual conduct and morally wrong to disapprove of people presenting themselves as the opposite of their biological sex.” Later in the program, Perkins took a call from a listener who complained that he had seen a picture on Facebook of “two naked guys sitting on each other” and that when he complained about it to Facebook “in a nice, respectful Christian way,” he was treated like “the biggest bigot out there.”

1. A total WTF! This hate group is so damn bizarre and weird. And, like who the F is making them

look at photos. These are like the ones that watch porn and then scream about porn. A psychological profile of Tony Perkins would reveal some interesting internal conflicts IMO.

2. What I don't understand is why people don't understand...

that this is the voice of the Republican Party. Rachel Maddow has been covering this lunacy for the past couple of nights. But some of us have been following this shit since the 1980's, when the Religious Right, or the Christian Coalition (you pick your label) decided that they could take over one of the two major political parties in the arguably most powerful country on the planet.

The result has been an absolutely horrible thing. And it has not gotten better because the lunatic, crazy religious kooks have all the more power. And yes, they are all under the GOP label.

We ignore this at our peril, meaning our doom. Religion and politics are, and always will be, a toxic mix.
