The Russian channel RT has become the voice of the people and the revolutionaries, it deserves admiration, Bolivian President Evo Morales recently remarked in response to statements made by the US Broadcasting Board of Governors' CEO Andrew Lack, who had named the channel, along with Islamic State militants, as the main challenge facing his agency.
RT Under Attack for Challenging US Medias Foreign Policy Narrative
MOSCOW, January 30 (Sputnik) Bolivian President Morales has called the Russian television channel RT the voice of revolutionaries and of the peoples of the world, and stated that it deserves admiration.
"When the media turns into the voice of the people, especially in the voice of revolutionaries, there are those people and the media, who will judge them and falsify the truth," Morales told RT. "This media is the voice of the developing countries, the voice of the peoples of the world, and it deserves our admiration."
Despite smear campaigns, misrepresentation of facts, and outright lies, such media should continue their work to give the microphone to the peoples of the world, added the Bolivian head of state.

(20,582 posts)I'm always amazed here at people trying so hard to censor the reading material and thoughts of others and who proclaim to know it all themselves, don't even realize they're operating in their own, custom-made little prisons. Reminds me of my mom ranting and raving about the dangers of the internet because 'you'll catch a virus from that thing!'. "Yes mom!" .............. "yes RT/AlJazeera/anything other but the MSM haters".
Good for him. Censorship sucks.

(45,319 posts)Because RT has a strong anti gay bias, to put is kindly. So I have no need to read the point of view of bigots, I already know their point of view from their actions, which speak far louder than words.
You straight folks can go suck up that shit all day long, it is crafted for them, tailored to fit their prejudices. Enjoy your confirmation bias methods!!!!!

(20,582 posts)No, I don't watch Fox news AT ALL, but I've seen many reports from Fox sites posted here that I've been able to verify easily with others, just as I do with every article.
There are plenty of bigots championing your recommended MSM sites, what does that have to do with whether some straight fuck like me is able to decide for themselves what makes sense enough to take the time to look up and verify?
Enjoy your tries for censorship.

With the crappy propaganda rags the USA has these days, pretending to be "journalism," seems a tad bit silly to be pointing fingers at ANY others.

Just watch the "coverage" of the MH17 incident, and all is revealed. They're like Fox News with a Russian accent.

And there are some, even here at DU that want to ban RT from being posted...shameful really but RT has become like Radio Free America because our media has become like Pravda.

(25,699 posts)It's there every time a new story about a black child being gunned down hits the headlines. it's there every time someone gets sniffy about the notion that "thug" is a dog whistle. It's there when Chelsea manning is mentioned. It's there when some asshole who happens to be an Arab or Muslim commits a crime, oh god is it there, then. it's all over the place whenever someone mentions the Redskins - or most recently, water-carrying for the blowhards who dumped beer on native kids watching a hockey game. I've seen DU'ers talk about how Romani people really are all theives and criminals, and defending Italian purges against their communities.
Look man, seriously? DU is slathered in bigotry. I'd love to name names, i have more than a few, but, oh dear, pointing out racists is worse than actually being one around here. So I would suggest just trying to be a little more aware and perceptive. Most racism is NOT so blatant as white hoods and burning crosses on someone's front lawn

(16,808 posts)really a transistor radio that could get more stations
i liked to listen to the foreign services not so much that i believe them but that it
told me at least some of what was going on in the rest of the world
even back then i knew american news was lacking
i preferred bbc world service and radio deutchevele which is not in my spell check.
we can take the ramblings of rt with some grains of salt but they can alert us to the fact that there is something going on in places being covered
for that they are useful.
much of the us would be surprised to find out the world does not stop because of some damn football game(packer fan and yes i am bitter) on sunday

(24,692 posts)It is a good source of news as long as you understand its bias but you can say that about many media outlets. You know its stories will be anti-EU, anti-US and uncritical of Russian policy but it has good programs and takes a look at issues from a different perspective which is always valuable.

(13,598 posts)For most news organs, the agenda is "report the world as we see it". That "as we see it" covers a multitude of biases and sins, but they will at least generally aspire to tell the truth.
For RT reporting the news is at least partly means, not an end; the end is promoting Putin's policies.

"Russia Today" is a state-owned media outlet that provides material intended only to strengthen Russia's global position: there's no evidence that it supports (say) organization of workers or that it promotes any useful analysis of oligarchic power.

(20,582 posts)Reminds me of the people calling for the ME to be turned to glass when invading Iraq.
Nice to have that kind of power, eh?
Morales has done more for his people than any gov't in NA would even dare whisper about - but then being brave enough to work for the people, and not the 1% isn't really something that's valued in NA.

(6,145 posts)It's little things like this that have alienated various democratically elected leaders in Latin America and pushed them into a pro-Russian diplomatic stance.
http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2013/jul/04/forcing-down-morales-plane-air-piracy
Imagine the response from Paris, let alone the "international community", as the governments of the west call themselves. To a chorus of baying indignation from Whitehall to Washington, Brussels to Madrid, heroic special forces would be dispatched to rescue their leader and, as sport, smash up the source of such flagrant international gangsterism. Editorials would cheer them on, perhaps reminding readers that this kind of piracy was exhibited by the German Reich in the 1930s.
You know. Little things like that.
