(39,376 posts)Might as well extend your indictment to the whole world using that logic.
That said, American football is a proven cause of brain damage to those who play it. I don't know if that somehow sheds light on its unique hold on this country, but i wouldn't stand in the way of anyone who made the argument.

Much more productive use of my time than sitting around watching one billionaire's team play against another billionaire's team. I don't plan on watching a single inning!
Since you asked, I'll be filling out more paperwork to try, again, to refinance my home. I might check in to the SB occasionally, since the Seahawks are the closest thing I've got to a "local" team, and my sons are sure to ask me if I watched the game the next time I talk to them. They, I'm sure, will be texting each other from 1200 miles apart all through the game, just as they did in the NFC championship game. I'm doing laundry. I'm packing away my dog's things, as she passed a week ago. That's really enough for the day, all by itself. I'm putting the cat in her harness on her turnout line so that she can get out doors. I'm doing dishes. And finally, in any spare time, I'll be reading a book.

(14,449 posts)This Superbowl is incredible! John Legend did great. The national anthem is so beautiful! The football players so respectful with their hand over their hearts. The military looking so professional. The flyover a wonderful touch.
Our country is incredible! The most beautiful thing I have watched in a long time.

I'm a Pats fan but I tend to get way too emotionally involved in the game and am too nervous to watch. So for my own mental health, I'm going to laugh at SNL reruns rather than get anxiety-ridden about the Super Bowl.
The Seahawks seem utterly vicious and I don't trust them not to play dirty. Especially since a lot of people are rooting for them to destroy the Pats over the, er, "over-inflated" non-scandal.

(86,660 posts)Don't have a TeeVee, don't like football. So I was on DU for a while, then I went to town and got fingerprinted for my job that starts in a few months (major background check that takes weeks at the very least), went skiing and saw two wolves, a moose and bobcat tracks. Then I came home and did a couple hours of vocal workout and practiced my mandolin and watched it snow for a while. Now I'm back here before I go to bed.
I had a great time. Hope you did too.
