Ben Carson: Of Course People Should Have To Get Vaccines
Dr. Ben Carson, a former pediatric neurosurgeon and potential 2016 presidential contender, broke from some of his fellow Republicans on Monday by saying that strict vaccination policies should be in place, even for those who have religious or philosophical objections.
"Although I strongly believe in individual rights and the rights of parents to raise their children as they see fit, I also recognize that public health and public safety are extremely important in our society," Carson said in a statement to BuzzFeed.
The conservative was asked by BuzzFeed about his position on vaccines the same day that New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) and Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) both suggested that the fringe anti-vaccination movement deserved to be taken at least a little seriously.

(15,036 posts)4. Well, we can't expect the anti-vax hysteria to winnow ALL the whackadoodles from the race. . .
It's enough that Christie and Paul have damaged themselves. We need only wait now. There's another issue on the horizon, soon to make its presence felt, and no doubt Carson will self-destruct upon that -- whatever it proves to be. It's just in his makeup, that's all.

(19,459 posts)5. It doesn't surprise me.
He's SDA, and they have a very strong commitment to science-based healthcare.
What DOES surprise me is all of his Christian Nation-flavored talk, as this seems directly antithetical to their eschatology.
