The male protagonist works as a lowly assistant doctor in a hospital and gets ridiculed when he insists on hygiene and the theory of "microbes". He gets fired when he insists that bloodletting would ultimate kill an elderly patient.

It looks ridiculous now, but was very real back then.

Or "The Road to Wellville".

This is what happens when you have only a little bit of medical knowledge and the rest gets made up with pseudoscience. (A little bit of electrocution to revitalize the body... "He's hysterical! Get him an enema!&quot

He was developing a competing vaccine. Since MMR was already approved, he needed to convince the government to take it away so he could make millions replacing it.

He also sold his testimony to lawyers who were trying to make millions suing the manufacturer of the MMR vaccine.

The people behind the anti-vaxx movement are about fraud. They are trying to convince people to buy their books and products instead of vaccines.

He's advocating something that will cause harm. The AMA doesn't take something like that lightly.
