GOP Senator’s Crazed Guantanamo Bay Rant Ends In World’s Most Awkward Silence

http://www.addictinginfo.org/2015/02/08/gop-senators-crazed-guantanamo-bay-rant-ends-in-worlds-most-awkward-silence-video/

Republican Senator Tom Cotton has made his name by flinging outlandish claims at the Obama administration in the cause of extending and expanding the bogus ‘war on terror’ – but when he harangued Pentagon officials about the ‘empty beds’ in Guantanamo Bay this week, things got awkward.

After John McCain withdrew his long term support for President Obama’s plans to close the extra-judicial site, Cotton joins a group of Republicans flinging mud at the decision. Using jingoistic language almost entirely free of fact, Cotton tore into Pentagon Officials at Congress this week in efforts to make a name for himself as a right-wing firebrand.

His argument? There were terrorists before Guantanamo Bay, therefore arguments that the site acts as a recruiting sergeant for terrorists is false and we should keep it open. His words:

COTTON: Islamic terrorists don’t need an excuse to attack the United States. They don’t attack us for what we do, they attack us for who we are. It is not a security decision. It is a political decision based on a promise the president made on his campaign. To say that it is a security decision based on propaganda value that our enemies get from it is a pretext to justify a political decision. In my opinion, the only problem of Guantanamo Bay is there are too many empty beds and cells there right now. We should be sending more terrorists there for further interrogation to keep this country safe. As far as I’m concerned, every last one of them can rot in hell, but as long as they don’t do that, then they can rot in Guantanamo Bay!

TBI at birth. I've served in the Army with gung ho guys like this. He's all twisted because "going to war" wasn't necessarily the bloodbath he envisioned participating in.

Mostly it was GWB who started the slide, but Canadian Cruz and Cotton Hill don't help.

Yale '85 here.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Cotton#Early_life_and_education

After graduating from Dardanelle High School in June 1995, he attended Harvard College, where he served as a columnist for the Harvard Crimson, and a member of the Harvard Republican Club. After graduating from Harvard magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government, he went on to Harvard Law School, where he was taught by Elizabeth Warren. He received his law degree in June 2002.

I'm thinking he flunked that class.
