Canadian Conservative MP jumps to Liberals, criticizes Harper

Source: The Globe and Mail

Eve Adams is leaving behind her turbulent past in the Conservative Party and crossing the floor to join the Liberal Party, disavowing the income-splitting promise on which she successfully ran in the 2011 election.

Ms. Adams will be seeking the Liberal nomination in an unspecified riding in the Greater Toronto Area, after having failed in her attempt to win the Conservative nomination in the riding of Oakville North-Burlington last year. She said that after 25 years in the Conservative family, the party’s decision to ask her to “step aside” after a bitter nomination battle forced her into an intense period of “soul searching.”

“That sparked a very long reflection, and sometimes things happen for a reason,” she said. “The values of the Conservative Party are not the values of the original Progressive Conservative Party and they are not the values that I hold.”

Ms. Adams appeared at a news conference in Ottawa on Monday morning alongside Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau, praising his positive and optimistic leadership, which she contrasted to Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s style of politics. “I want to work with someone who inspires, not with fear-mongers and bullies,” she said.
