The trees of Gene Leahy Mall are covered with scarves, and for a heartwarming reason
This park is in downtown Omaha. It always has a number of homeless people in the area. In the winter the library across the street is used for warming up.

The multicolored scarves dangling from the tree branches of the Gene Leahy Mall are no fashion statement.
These freebies are a helping hand extended from a group known as The Secret Kindness Agents. More than 150 volunteers brought handfuls of scarves, hats, gloves and other pieces of winter armor to the park Sunday afternoon, hanging them on railings, resting them on the necks of statues and tying them around tree trunks, each bearing a note.
Im not lost! the note says, If you are out in the cold, please take me to help keep you warm! For Street Outreach call: 402-889-5505. For shelter numbers dial 221.
Anyone without a home or without the means to buy their own winter gear is encouraged to pluck whatever they need from the park to stay warm.
