Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker has found a friend in conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh, whos touting him as the right type of candidate for the GOP to win the next presidential election.
After Walker made a huge impression at the Iowa Freedom Summit on Jan. 24, political pundits came out saying that they believe he has greatly improved his chances of winning the Republican nomination in 2016, according to the National Journal. But Limbaugh says he saw it coming all along.
"He has come out of nowhere, and my point is he hasn't come out of nowhere," Limbaugh said on his show about Walker. "He's been front and center but unreported on. But Republicans and conservative voters and so forth know exactly who he is and what he stands for."
Limbaugh had barely mentioned Walker during his program last month while former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and 2012 nominee Mitt Romney were grabbing all the conversation. But following the acclaimed performance in Iowa, Limbaugh cannot seem to speak enough about Walker.
After three weeks without a mention by Limbaugh, Walkers name appears 200 times in transcripts of "The Rush Limbaugh Show" over the last week of January and the first week of February, according to the National Journal.

(45,274 posts)Rush may be psychopathic, he may be a pervert and a drug addict, he may be a despicable adjunct to an anal cyst, he may lie and deceive and spread hate and rage among his listeners, but I think he knows exactly what he's doing. I don't know the game here, but suddenly Walker is exciting a whole lot of interest on the right; and, truth to tell, as I've posted elsewhere, I've become convinced that he's more dangerous than he looks.

(14,255 posts)everything we think of as a negative is a plus for GOP voters. Legal troubles? Dems out to get him. Budget woes? Blame it on freeloaders. Attacking colleges and unions? Yay! from the poor GOP voters. The rich GOP voters could care less about any of that stuff.
Scoffing feels good, but I would pay attention to how the GOP voters think - or don't think. Scott has not embarrassed himself on the national stage as yet. It would take an actual indictment and sentencing to get rid of him, methinks. No doubt Limbaugh is being paid to run Walker's name up the flagpole, but he influences a lot of GOP voters. And Walker is "new" enough that he can be easily influenced by big money, with no apparent change in policies or platform. On the other hand, maybe too early for the Kochs to start pushing. Remember that phone call, where the caller pretended to be Koch, and Walker was quite clear that the Kochs were running things? Didn't hurt him one bit. Although I suspect national media might be more difficult to control, and there, the longer the race, the more CU money gets scooped up into the media maw. There are a lot of inflamed hemorrhoid-al egos in the GOP clown car. And maybe, this time, Rush jumping on a bandwagon will break the bandwagon.
Once again, as always, politics is now just money, and for the most part, the campaign rhetoric is just what either side feels the sheep want to hear. Ugh.
