Alan Grayson: Dems Accused Of “Blood Libel” If They Don’t Cater To Military Industrial Complex

Alan Grayson: Democrats Accused Of “Blood Libel” If They Don’t Cater To Military Industrial Complex
2/11/15

The country will be perfectly safe if we stop incessantly feeding the military industrial complex and military contractors with the billions upon billions in profits that they take out of taxpayers pockets each year…”

Democratic Rep. Alan Grayson of Florida said Tuesday Democrats get accused of the “blood libel” of not supporting the troops if they don’t cater to the military industrial complex.

“Well the president has fallen into this trap that many Democrats have fallen into where, uh, the president is afraid that if he doesn’t cater to the military industrial complex and in particular the spying industrial complex — which is taking a bigger and bigger part of our budget recently…the so-called black budget, the part that people aren’t even allowed to see — if he doesn’t cater to them then he will be attacked as weak on defense, as supposedly leaving our country defenseless, and not supporting the troops — which is this blood libel that gets casts to Democrats over and over again,” Grayson said on SiriusXM’s The Agenda Tuesday.

...“And it’s unfortunate that so many of us have fallen for that trick and they succumb to the idea that it’s all inevitable so you might as well go along for the ride. It’s a mistake, the country will be perfectly safe if we stop incessantly feeding the military industrial complex and military contractors with the billions and billions in profits that they take out of taxpayers pockets each year…at the expense of our health, and our education, and our transportation, and our jobs.”...

Lucky for US, there are -some- truly Progressive Dems who are. along with Grayson, fighting this manipulation. Thanks to eridani for posting this in the Populist Reform of the Democratic Party (Group)~

Progressive Democrats of America announces support for Congresswoman Lee's and congressman Honda's new legislation to establish a comprehensive strategy against ISIL and to stop a new American ground war in the Middle East.

...Progressive Democrats of America National Director Conor Boylan said, "The United States has had large-scale military involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan for over a decade. What is the result of all of this effort? The spreading of terrorism, the death of thousands of Americans, the death of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis, Afghanis, and others throughout the region; while leaving the Middle East unstable with millions of people in refugee camps, loss of trillions of dollars to the U.S. economy, no significant lasting contribution to civil society in this region and the potential for an endless cycle of war that could spread to other nations."

Boylan added, "The time has come for a comprehensive strategy to stop the endless war in the Middle East. PDA strongly opposes sacrificing more blood of men and women of the United States Armed Forces through a new war in the Middle East. We cannot continue to request life sacrifices of military personnel, aid workers, journalists, and others over battles that American ground troops should not have to fight, over resources that are not ours to control, and over disagreements that could be handled using diplomacy, economics, and politics, rather than bullets and bombs."

PDA Advisory Board Member Congressman Jim McGovern (MA-02) said, “I am troubled by the Administration’s request, which I believe is far too open-ended and does little to constrain this or the next Administration from engaging in sustained combat. We should be doing much more to promote a legitimate and lasting political solution in the region.” ...

Now maybe it's like 'holocaust' vs 'Holocaust' - a generic word that people nowadays just don't like to see used except in specific reference to the WW2 one, but I've never heard 'blood libel' used in any but a very specific way that's attached to specific forms of anti-Semitic propaganda. So I came in to the thread thinking the article was going to be about arms flowing to Israel or somesuch, rather than its much wider actual meaning.

But I truly hope others see the message rather than get hung up on the term that normally is used ag Jewish people.

We need to get the h*ll out of the Middle East & fix our own country. I hope Grayson continues to talk about it, though I'm sure he's gotten flack over the "blood libel" phrase, & will hopefully refrain from using it going forward.

the truth is, the people beating war drums (and spending big time money) are the Netanyahu style Zionists, who do indeed accuse anyonewho opposes them of bering anti-semitic. It is why we will have Bibi adress us soon, as if we elected him.

Wolf Blitzer interviewed Lindsay Graham on the news last night. Graham beating the war drums asked Blitzer if he agreed ISIL was a threat to the 'homeland'. Blitzer "Of course"
So go the drums of war.

I have a friend who calls herself a Democrat who truly believes the Middle East wants to destroy us because they don't"like freedom". And she votes D. She has MSM on all the time when she's home. CNN, MSNBC. She tried to convince me to join jihadwatch.org, she gets updates from them.

Insanity. Gone mainstream.

First I would want women to have to participate in the draft.

Secondly we would need to make goddamn sure that there are no champagne units for such people either. These people need to be serving on the front lines, not in Texas keeping all the beer taps safe for democracy like they did back in Vietnam.

Going back as far as the civil war (and probably earlier), children of the wealthy were not obligated to fight the wars, draft or no draft.

I've been accused of being anti-Semetic quite a few times when I've been critical of Israel as a nation. I think it's extremely dangerous to conflate Judaism and the political entity of the state of Israel.
