Works for me. Holding it in Brooklyn would have been terrible.

(34,101 posts)My job is primarily preparing student to take the bar exam. The convention is scheduled for the same dates as the bar examination in 2016. . . and the city where our bar exam is being held was on the list for the convention.
The bar examiners are already struggling to find a location for the 2015 bar exam (due to some stupid bag selling convention that booked the convention center and locked up all the hotel rooms in the city more than a year ago). I have panicked students trying to make hotel reservations for July, unaware that we don't even know what city will host the bar exam yet. I was not looking forward to doing that for a second time in 2016.

(72,631 posts)whether it would be a good idea to have the convention in Detroit.
You know... show the rest of the country what Republican policies lead to.
But that might be a tad negative... plus it wasn't just Republicans that gutted Detroit.
Better to appeal to our better angels I suppose... on to Philly!

(32,102 posts)they are already there. Some very poverty-stricken neighborhoods in Brooklyn. It would do the country good to see what our corporate overlords have created. My second choice would be Detroit. I don't want to see Hillary in front of the Liberty Bell. I want to see her in the middle of Compton telling me how exactly she is going to address income inequality.

(94,745 posts)Barclays Center is at the hub of three major Avenues and 10 subway lines. Secret Service security for the convention would require closures for blocks in all direction, affecting the lives of hundreds of thousands of people. Meanwhile, most of the hotels big enough to host the convention attendees would still be in Manhattan, which is also where the parties, receptions, "salons" etc. would be held.
