Cameron Hooker made sex slaves out of 2 women (Janice and Colleen) and was planning to abduct more. Though Colleen had escaped, (after 7 years of being kept a slave) Janice Hooker pleaded and persuaded Colleen against calling the police. Then, oddly enough, Janice turned Cameron in - instead. After a detailing trial of what the FBI said was an "unparalleled" case, Cameron Hooker was sentence to 104 years. This would make the kidnapper parole worthy in 2022; but a change in the law now permits a
Parole Hearing for Cameron Hooker in April 2015!
Colleen Stan and other would be victims, do not deserve the risk of seeing "if" this guy will kidnap (and possibly kill) again. As a progressive, I agree that our prison systems are overrun with parties who deserve a break; but this guy Cameron - isn't one of those guys.
Colleen Stan seeks our help in stopping the early release of Cameron Hooker from prison!

Many of you may not remember the ordeal known as "The Girl in a Box". It is a saga about how Colleen Stan was abducted and forced to live, for 7 years, most times 23 hours a day, inside a box. Making it more horrific is the fact that the box was (reportedly) underneath the bed of her captor (Cameron Hooker).
According to Wikipedia (here) - there's also a case of another kidnapping that resulted in the murder of Mary Elizabeth Spannhake. Unfortunately, due to the lack of evidence (no body was ever found), Cameron Hooker was never charged with murder.
Janice Hooker turned Cameron in, when he declared he wanted several more sex slaves. For her part in the affair, Janice was given complete immunity and has changed here name. Also according to Wikipedia, Janice and Colleen do not speak to each other.

Parties that Colleen has reached out to, have asked that we get the word out and (hopefully) some people will send some letters to the California Board of Parole Hearings. PLEASE consider signing our CHANGE.org PETITION -and help to get the word out about this case?
Colleen Stan worries that Cameron Hooker will kidnap and kill - Again!

Family and Friends of the Slain Mary Elizabeth Spannhake have signed our PETITION and still stand behind the allegation that Cameron Hooker killed Mary Elizabeth.
He also kidnapped and killed my sister, Marie Elizabeth (MarLiz) Spannhake , but nothing was done 'caose they didn't find her body! Ask Colleen, she saw a picture of our family on Hooker's mantle, but the stupid police and FBI never pursued, and it was always alll about Colleen

Molly Hughes SCHENECTADY, NY about 2 hours agoHe also killed Marie Elizabeth (MarLiz) Spannhake - a close family friend. someone who kidnaps and tortures women and then kills them has no right to freedom. leave him where he is!

I am a family friend of Marliz Spannhake. His wife told authorities this man murdered her. His acts are heinous and he should serve every minute of his sentence.

Hope we can help them get justice - and move this PETITION forward.

(1,375 posts)Charles Manson has had 12 hearings and he's still behind bars. I doubt they will let Hooker out either.

(7,805 posts)It would be a sad state of affairs to ass-u-me that the Parole Board will do the right thing;
and then find out that protocols and orders from upon high - commanded his release!

(1,375 posts)and I agree with it completely. I also take comfort that Gov. Brown has a strong record of overturning bone-headed decisions from the parole board. That and the heinous nature of the crime leaves me confident that Hooker will die behind bars.

The governor's parole workload has become significant. He must act upon a grant of parole within 30 days of receipt, and in 2012 he had to deal with an average of more than a dozen a week. Brown personally reviews each one, typically meeting once a week with his staff to do so, said the official, who spoke on the condition that his name not be used because he is not authorized to publicly speak for the administration.
Brown has allowed far more grants of parole to stand than did his predecessor, former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who reversed about 60 percent of those that came to him.
