Rush Limbaugh: 'Saturday Night Live' Once Invited Me to Play Santa Claus

Rush Limbaugh today claimed that back in the 90s, Saturday Night Live invited him on not to play Santa Claus. Not as a show host or anything like that, just to play Santa.

Limbaugh never did it, of course, but says if he did, “it would have been one of the biggest career mistakes I’ve ever made.”

He explained on his radio show that Lorne Michaels personally reached out to him to play Santa, which was apparently “intended as a setup for Al Franken‘s book.” And as Limbaugh listened to Michaels, he says he realized they wanted to use him as a “punching bag,” so they turned him down.

Since then, of course, SNL has lampooned Limbaugh various times, including back in 2012 after Limbaugh got in trouble for his comments about Sandra Fluke.

He would probably hold a box of popcorn in his lap, and ask the little kids if they wanted some...

Rush is a waste of skin.

So very much more in tune with railing against things they don't like than they ever are with things they do like. What an exhausting existence it must be.

Their inveterate inability to separate politics from anything, especially entertainment, really kills their ability to enjoy things.

Frankens has the book coming out so he writes a skit to get Rush in costume (everyone knows who it is) on live TV. Franken brings out his book Big Fat Idiot and Rush is stuck on camera with it or he storms off the stage.

Lorne bets Franken he can book him.
