The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said there was no tsunami threat from the quake. The Japan Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami advisory, warning of strong currents, but said no tsunami damage was expected.

"Shindo" is the Japanese system for measuring seismic intensity, which runs on a scale of 0 to 7, with 7 being catastrophic. An intensity of 4 means that there would be a lot of rattling, and some books, decorations, etc., might fall off of shelves, but there would be no serious damage.

Japan is. Still, it is just north of the one that set off the tsunami a few years ago.
