The coldest outbreak of the season is pushing south into the eastern United States this week. Temperatures will be running as low as 30 to 40 degrees below normal across the Ohio Valley and Mid-Atlantic on Friday morning. Thursday nights departure from normal temperatures is shown above in Celsius. (tropicaltidbits.com)
The coldest air of the season is surging south this week, leading up to what could be historic cold for parts of the eastern United States.
Thursday and Fridays polar outbreak could set all-time February low records from Tennessee to Virginia. With a fresh coat of snow, Washington has the potential to dip below zero for the first time since 1994.
All of this is courtesy of a plume of not just Arctic, but Siberian air that has been trudging across the North Pole and into North America over the past week.

(4,713 posts)outback, like I've heard killings. At one point my sister swore it was just that I was ripped out of my mind, but my dad said stay away from that palm & I'm 36 yrs old.

(4,475 posts)We have a freeze watch for Friday, which only happens once or twice a year here, if at all. Supposed to be 49 tomorrow - VERY cold for winter in Central FL (about 20 degrees below normal).

(86,636 posts)Make sure you have you gas tank in your vehicle at least half full or full if possible. And keep a hat on your head, cover all flesh when you go out even for a minute.
That is some dangerous cold.

(48,955 posts)Fortunately we didn't get the predicted amounts of snow in the past several weeks so we are not under the levels of snow in the northeast. Did get a bit of a pile in the last couple of days (under a foot), but the wicked wind chills have kicked in. My heartfelt concern to those who have to deal with these same wicked wind chills (minimize any time outside - and make sure you are covered in multiple layers of clothes - beneath outerwear - at all times you are outside), and who are coping with dealing with navigating several feet of snow.
Be safe.
While I recall a couple of days a year with such wind chills at this level - it is only recently that this is a pattern that holds for a longer number of days - and happens multiple times across the season.

(24,764 posts)Don't mind me; I'll be prepared. It's a trip to the food bank where we have to wait in line outside. It's best to get there 2 hours before it opens.
Here's my plan: dress in multiple layers; sit in my car with the engine running to keep warm; take a Thermos full of hot coffee; bring breakfast; and fill up my e-cig tanks and vape my coffee flavored liquid.

(2,807 posts)That's temperature, not wind chill which is crazy enough.

(28,876 posts)...to keep Canadian and Siberian air out of the US? This frigid foreign air is bad for America.
Can someone please tip off Jeb or Rand about this winning policy position?

(21,020 posts)about 20 degrees.
It actually almost felt warm.
I was talking with the mail lady earlier today and we were both laughing about how weird it is that 20 degrees felt like a heat wave.
Will have to call or text my mom in Orlando to ask if she's wearing her thermal undies. HAH!!

If this shit becomes commonplace, I AM moving to Cali ASAP - job or none. Full stop. I can't live like this. It's bullshit.
