She's the youngest of three sisters and the smallest of them:

I doubt she'll reach four and a half feet full grown.

Her single mother has worked minimum wage jobs in the whole decade I've known the family, keeping them all clothed and fed and loved

Six or seven years ago I tutored this sprig of a girl, then a second-grader (I think), in the library, helping her with her math. Later we walked through the library, looking for her mother, and the girl told me how hard it was to read the big books there. I told her if she just practiced, they would seem easier and she'd be able to read any of them

Time passed. I ran into her at the library check-out last winter, with her chin clamped firmly on the tall stack of big books she was carting to the desk to take home, smiling with joy in her eyes

I hadn't seen them for a while, so I called her mother tonight. Youngest smallest sister is fourteen now. She'll graduate middle school in the spring. And she's been accepted into the early college program at a local university. She wants to be a lawyer

Do mighty oaks from tiny acorns grow?

Yes, they do: I know they really do

Inspiring story of a young girls wish to succeed and to rise. Thank you so much for posting it my friend.

Out of the huts of history's shame
I rise
Up from a past that's rooted in pain
I rise
I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide,
Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.
Leaving behind nights of terror and fear
I rise
Into a daybreak that's wondrously clear
I rise
Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,
I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
I rise
I rise
I rise.
