(3,585 posts)I like to sleep in a cold room, so I have the window open and the fan in the window, trying to get the bedroom down to about 63 degrees for sleeping.
I'll get through this winter, but there have been days when I was bundled up in a long sleeve shirt when having to go outside.

(111,267 posts)The southwest has been getting a really mild winter this year with very little snow even on the mountains.
I'm dreading fire season.

(7,720 posts)A temperature od -4° and a windchill of -19° is NOTHING! You have to have much, much colder many times. (I've lived my whole life in Minnesota with the exception of a year in Green Bay.)

(46,328 posts)Believe me, I know how cold it gets, especially in Northern MinneSNOWta.
Worst I can remember was 40 below, quite a few years ago.
Right now it's -7.

(7,720 posts)I remember -41° in St. Cloud when I was in college. Not a hint of wind. It literally took my breath away and I had to breathe through a scarf.
When I was in high school, I remember temps in the -30s with frequency. Those temps combined with 30+ mph wind made for some windchills in the -100 range. (The NWS has since changed the windchill charts so those readings would only be in the -80s now.)
I remember going into the ditch when the WC was around -75°. I had to walk a 1/4 mile back to my workplace. My shift was over, but I got to spend the night. It was a better alternative to dying.
