http://www.alternet.org/scott-walker-ably-demonstrates-gop-still-party-stupidIt was quite amusing to see Scott Walker pilloried by certain right-wing luminaries for failing to smoothly answer when asked by a British reporter whether he believes in evolution. Not that theres any doubt that it was a very clumsy answer:
For me, I am going to punt on that one as well. Thats a question politicians shouldnt be involved in one way or another. I am going to leave that up to you. Im here to talk about trade not to pontificate about evolution.
One might have expected the Great Whitebread Hope to be a little better prepared or at least be politically skilled enough not to come right out and say, Im going to punt on that one. It was amateur hour, to say the least. Still, he may have been more skilled than people gave him credit for. Walker showed that he understands the Republican base far better than the likes of George Will, who said on Fox News last week that press questions about evolution are a standard way of trying to embarrass Republicans We should be able to come to terms with the fact when asked about evolution you say yes. And if one syllable of one word is not enough say Paleontology. Everything says evolution is a fact. Get over it.
The sad fact is that polling shows fewer and fewer Republicans believe in evolution.

(4,458 posts)still insist these Corp Reps who hold the title of "US Congressman/woman, Governor, US Senator", and a myriad of other appointees, are "Stupid"? And "Dumb"? "Misunderstanding of any situation" And "Incompetent"? etc?
They are White, Wealthy, Calculating Reactionary's. Period.
It is very misleading - excusatory - actually-to describe their behavior as anything else, imo.
" Reactionary describes people on the far right politically. Reactionaries occupy a political space past conservative, near where ultra-conservative bumps shoulders with fascist.

(36,063 posts)Diseases, disorders or and other debasements are offered to describe the Them in a manner that suggests the Us is better, and that the author of the chauvinism is one with "Us" in the fight against the Them.
It turns out that this sort of name calling is very popular. We don't need to know what makes the Them tick, we just need to know who they are, because whatever might result from analysis of Them and their ideas, it is accepted that the Them -ARE-always worse than US (US actually advocate voting in national elections on that understanding, and advocating solidarity around Us-ness is very common on DU). Of course that means that clear signals must be sent by authors, editors and pundits to indicate what side they are on. Less than clear Us-ness causes dissonance, especially between progressives and pro-corporatists.
And you are correct, because chauvinistic debasements of opponents don't accurately reflect why they are Them or what would motivate them to act like Them, such statements stand in the way of meaningful understanding.
