Chris Hayes: 'Holy War' Talk By Fox's Bill O'Reilly Is 'Exactly What ISIS Wants' (video)

(snip)

"That sort of rhetoric is, of course, exactly what ISIS wants," Hayes said on "All In With Chris Hayes."

"If this is a holy war, they aren’t some murderous cult or some fringe Sunni militia," he continued. "No, if it’s a holy war, then they are the representatives of Islam, which is why the President at today's summit on violent extremism was so careful not to cast the fight on those terms.”

Hayes added that the Islamic State has "had success in framing the fight on their terms not just on Fox News but also to some extent on the battlefield," noting the rise of a Christian militia in Iraq that has attracted Western fighters, including Americans.

"Can you imagine anything ISIS wants more than a Christian-identified army lining up from Christendom against them?" Hayes asked. "It only feeds their claim that they represent Islam and a holy war against the rest, a narrative that helps recruitment and radicalization, and gives oxygen to the very fire we are trying to snuff out."

A week or so ago they showed ISIS's video of them burning a Jordanian pilot to death and now they are spreading ISIS's propaganda that America is at war with Islam. I think the Treaty of Tripoli needs to brought out of the dust bins of history and given some air play.. It states in no uncertain terms we are not at war with Muslims nor or we a Christian Nation. Treaties are the "Supreme Law of the Land", no different than the Constitution itself.

I guess it's a good way to thin the herd and make huge profits at the same time.

The only way to beat them would be to make them a pariah among Muslims who do not want to live in the 7th century. The one thing which would unite them with Isis would be to make this a Christian vs Islam struggle and this is exactly what they want.

Right now this is an Islamic State v any other variety of Islam struggle. Yes, they kill Christians, Yazzidis and other groups but most of their atrocities have been committed against other Muslims. While it sounded a little silly for Obama to not say those Egyptian Christians who Isis killed were Christians, I would bet that this came at the behest of the Egyptian government. The Egyptian President, General al Sisi, a nasty piece of work but a secular kind of guy, has his hands full with Islamist extremists in his own country--some of whom are people who would be very happy to do the same to their Coptic neighbors. By evoking Egyptian nationalism and playing down the religion of those massacred Obama probably hopes to turn some people on the street against Isis. Whether this will work remains to be seen.

I hate this partisan crap. This is a real problem and it needs solutions not gotcha.

from us or even "Christiandom" just adds fuel to the fire and increases the probability of a complete meltdown.

The capacity more than exists in the hands of regional powers the will is lacking and the will falters because of the expectation that we will significantly take care of it, own any downside and blame for it, pay the cost, and allow them to beat up on us some too for domestic and regional framing.
Fuck all of that nonsense, they'll square this shit away when their wealth, power, life, and posterity are actually on the line.

Even if you believe we are Superman with all that entails with the truth, liberty, and the pursuit of justice as the sole purpose in an unadulterated battle between good and evil, it is important to try to understand that in some situations just adding Superman to the equation escalates the situation because Superman doesn't exist in a vacuum. Drawing Bizaro, Lex Luther, and maybe Brainiac into the a mess is not going to help anyone.

Now if you are one who can consider we might not be Superman then the math gets even worse.

STOP. BREATHE. THINK!

It doesn't matter what religion. They have all deluded themselves into the thinking that "God" will smite their enemies and prove that their beliefs are correct.

It isn't surprising that Billo's audience would be open to this nonsense. Self delusional extremists are FOX's bread and butter.

Islam (not just iSIS but all Muslims) and pretend they are in Armagedon. Their rallying cry is "The end is nigh prepare for the rapture."

That is what the Muslim guests on Chris's show and Lawrence O's show are warning us about. By turning this into an acknowledged "holy war" we validate ISIS as something other than a terrorist organization. And that goes for our crazy rw fundamentalists as well.

Unfortunately they are busy validating each other and ignoring the rest of us.
