Parents: Mich. pediatrician refused care for our baby because we’re lesbians

http://www.lgbtqnation.com/2015/02/parents-mich-pediatrician-refused-care-for-our-baby-because-were-lesbians/

A Michigan couple is going public over an incident last year when a local pediatrician refused to care for their infant because of their sexual orientation.

Jami and Krista Contreras, of Oak Park, Mich., say they brought their 6-day-old baby to Eastlake Pediatrics in Roseville for a checkup. But after waiting for their newborn’s first checkup, Dr. Vesna Roi refused to see them.

The Detroit Free Press reports they were told by another doctor that Roi decided she couldn’t treat their baby because they are lesbians.

“I was completely dumbfounded,” recalled Krista Contreras, the baby’s biological mother. “We just looked at each other and said, ‘Did we hear that correctly?’ …. When we tell people about it, they don’t believe us. They say, ‘(Doctors) can’t do that. That’s not legal.’ And we say, ‘Yes it is.’”

" I felt that I would not be able to develop the personal patient doctor relationship that I normally do with my patients."

What? You can't simply care for your patient? This needs more publicity as while maybe not illegal now, it is still highly unethical.

Not only refusing to care for the child, but waiting to hit them with this when they came in for the first visit, and not facing them herself but sending someone else out to tell them and give them a letter. She should lose her license, and I hope her patients dump her in droves. This was so very wrong.
