I just heard from two friends on Facebook who have had posts concerning Prescott Bush's connections with the Nazis taken down by Facebook. In response, I posted a 2004 Guardian investigative piece on the subject, "How Bush's grandfather helped Hitler's rise to power." So far, my post is still up.
Has anyone else here encountered this? If so, Facebook needs to be called out in a very public way for it. In the meantime, I would urge those who have Facebook accounts to post this or other articles on this topic. Facebook should not be permitted to scrub clean the Bush family's troublesome past!

AS for the Nazi? I think I've seen it before - but some pages with NAZI BUSH XXX or something might get banned.

(11,619 posts)None of them have been taken down that I remember. The only thing I see taken down regularly are pictures of nursing mothers.

(20,277 posts)I would imagine if you stick the word 'nazi' on your FB page, it's gonna get dumped.
I will certainly not put that on my FB page.

(8,401 posts)Even when it is an article from a respected news source that has been historically documented? I mean, it's not like we're talking about the the Sun here.

(20,277 posts)I don't do a bunch of politics on FB. I have immediate family and very close friends as 'friends'. We use it to catch up and enjoy one another's company. None of us are interested in turning it into a political discussion.

(8,401 posts). . . Your comment came across as if it were somehow improper or verboten ever to discuss anything having to do with the Nazis. But you seem to be saying you have made a personal choice not to use Facebook to discuss anything political -- that's a rather different matter, and I totally understand that.
HappyMe
(20,277 posts)it's usually something current. We aren't likely to talk about nazis or even the Bush family.

(2,860 posts)Tons of Occupy Wall Street posts about him popped up for me. There's a Salon article and a Truthout piece too. Most of them seem to be about the Bush-Nazi connection. On another note, I once tried to get a post removed. It was the only time I ever tried and it was a disturbing video of a woman smashing her head against her keyboard until her face was all swollen and bleeding. Facebook refused to remove it even though it was clearly self-abuse. Their message was for me to ask the person who posted it to remove it. If it weren't for all the animal rescue connections I have made in the last 6 years, I would have no use for Facebook. I guess it is what you make of it. Besides, I don't think anyone or anything can scrub clean the Bush family's past. That ship sailed years ago. People just believe what they want 'cognitive dissonance' be damned. Sometimes Facebook can be more like Assbook if you know what I mean.

(8,401 posts). . . because it was clearly dedicated to glorifying the abuse of women, with similar pics, videos, etc., to the one you describe. They refused. Appalling.

(8,401 posts). . . and that is certainly good to know. It doesn't entirely rule out the possibility that they are scrubbing current posts on the topic, but it is certainly encouraging.

(2,860 posts)You should repost and see what happens. You might have to change something slightly to see if it sticks.

(27,630 posts)It is true that there are grunt-worker facebook employees, in places like India, who delete posts they think are inappropriate.
I have read that "inappropriate" usually means penis photos, bare boobs, snuff videos, etc. Political stuff is far less likely to be deleted, I think.
But why did just my post about Egypt get removed, when so many other people posted freely about how glad they were for the Egyptian people standing up for themselves..? No idea, really. I suppose it's up to the individual employee to delete according to their whim.
