Joy-Ann Reid’s Show Canceled

By Chris Ariens on Feb. 19, 2015 - 2:20 PM

As part of broader upcoming changes to MSNBC’s dayside programming, TVNewser has learned Joy Ann-Reid‘s 2pmET show “The Reid Report” will be canceled. Reid joined MSNBC as a contributor in 2011 and was given her own show as the result of the last programming shake-up in early 2014.

An internal source at MSNBC tells us Reid will stay with the network contributing to TV programs and digital platforms.

I think he'll be next to get the ax. I hope they keep Chris Hayes. I know he's not the prototypical prime time host, but his show is good.

MSNBC Cancels Ronan Farrow’s Show Along with Joy Reid’s
by Matt Wilstein | 5:26 pm, February 19th, 2015 10

In addition to canceling Joy Reid‘s daytime show The Reid Report, which MSNBC sources confirmed to Mediaite earlier today, the network is also canceling Ronan Farrow’s show and moving Way Too Early’s Thomas Roberts back to a dayside role, anchoring a straight news show from 1-3 p.m. ET daily.

Neither Reid nor Farrow have been fired by the network. Reid will become MSNBC’s national correspondent, producing original reporting for on air and online programming. Farrow is expected to host a new series of primetime specials for MSNBC and will be featured as a special correspondent across the network’s schedule.

The change in daytime programming represents a conscious shift by the network away from more opinionated hosts and towards a more news-focused lineup. Following Morning Joe, José Díaz-Balart’s show will air for two hours starting at 9 a.m., followed by Tamron Hall at 11, Andrea Mitchell at 12 and then Roberts from 1-3 p.m. each day.

Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski will fill in for Roberts on Way Too Early until a more permanent replacement is found.

Earlier this month, Farrow’s show hit a new low in the 25-54 demo ratings with just 11,000 viewers. During the same hour, Fox led with 202K and CNN had 154K. Even Al Jazeera America topped MSNBC with 22K. While it has rated slightly better than Ronan Farrow Daily over the past year, The Reid Report has also struggled of late, routinely trailing CNN and Fox by large margins.

Especially about Joy, since she's the one I've seen on other people's programs. Darn.

And more bad news from what you posted--I LOVE LOVE LOVE Al Jazeera and couldn't believe it only has 22K viewers during Ronan's time slot--so I googled it and apparently the network is in real trouble.

Anybody lucky enough to get Al Jazeera America in their cable package should give it a shot--I think it's excellent. The documentaries are amazing--the one called "Borderlands" was hugely eye-opening.

But back to Joy--darn, darn, darn. She's really good.

I have seen her on the evening shows as a guest commentator. I have liked her. I am not able to watch her regular show in the day time. (I am on the west coast.) I hope there will be another slot for her.

Her fast-talking, quick thinking commentary always seemed to have an original twist to it. Oh well.

Her statement on the Lawrence O'Donnell show over the ridiculous media screaming about President's prayer breakfast speech. was an example of bravery and honor in the media. Her voice was a refreshing note of clarity and sanity. Nearly every other video media person, particularly on MSNBC. were screaming the most vile religious bigotry propaganda. I thing her refusing to criticize President Obama other that cost her her show. she is a person of immense integrity. i will miss her show.
