Taken from another board re: ACA and low information voters

Quick anecdote; A patient was in my office yesterday asking me to help them find a hematologist that will accept uninsured patients. She needs regular transfusion b/c her bypass F'ed up her ability to absorb certain nutrients.

Me: Ma'am, I'll try and see if I can speak to the administrator at this physicians's office, but if it is their policy not to accept self-pay, there is very little I can do. In the event that I am unable to find you someone, have you looked into the exchange plans and the subsidies that may be available to you?

Her: That's Obamacare. I would never do that. They have death panels. If I'm going to die, it's going to be on my own terms.

Me: Ma'am, didn't you just tell me you would get sick and likely die without these transfusions? And you may need insurance to get them.

Her: But those subsidies count as income, and I can't afford the taxes.

me: But you can afford the hospitalizations without insurance?

Her: I just can't do that Obamacare.

will get to die on her own terms. Those terms being unwillingness to accept health care coverage. I do wonder what the transfusions would cost if someone were paying totally out of pocket.

Now, if that woman survives to age 65, I do hope she likewise refuses to enroll in Medicare.
